Actually we have approximately 30 feet of snow here, in layers, packed down into ice, and nobody is getting off this hill, or onto it either, so I have some extra time whether I want it or not. (The amount of snow is slightly exaggerated but the getting on or off the hill is not. The roads are closed, buses are not running; we are cut off up here.)

It occurs to me that one advantage of Obama’s choice is that people have a much clearer idea of who and what Rick Warren is. His reputation as progressive-for-a-fundie may be over.

Strangely, this has almost exactly the same problems you’re pointing out. First, foremost, and most obviously, it’s a tall tale. But ignoring that, the Holy Spirit (or so we hear) always existed, so it’s not like *that* began at conception. Also, John didn’t react to the actual person Jesus but rather to this other thing (if that distinction is sane?), so for all we know, Jesus-the-human didn’t exist at that moment. So it’s all a bit confusing, except insofar as it very clearly aims to undercut scientific and civil rights progress.

(And, of course, I’m terribly worried about the whole Warren-invocation thing, but that goes without saying. What a reprehensible twerp he is, Warren, and what a great deal of trouble Obama is making for everyone in exchange for the chance of better things to come.)

This is such awful shit! And this is the guy, remember, that Obama has chosen to spotlight on the 20th January. Obama’s judgement about religious leaders is sadly deficient. First Jeremiah Wright and now this turkey?!

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone would think that the Bible is without error in any way. It doesn’t make sense. All the murder and mayhem that God commands. Samuel hacking the 400 odd priests of Baal in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. The bears that maul 42 boys for teasing Elisha, calling him ‘Baldhead!’ Jephtha’s daughter sacrificed, because the Lord gave him victory in battle. The flood that destroyed all life on earth in a failed attempt to make people better. The genocide, the consecrating of all living things in defeated cities to God by murder. And it goes on and on, almost without end. And this idiot says that there is no error!!!!!!!

And, of course, anyone caught working on the Sabbath is killed. And anyone who commits adultery. And children who disobey their parents. And men who lie with men as with a woman. And, don’t forget: all pre-fucked women are killed as well. That fits in with Muslim ideas too. In fact, they still do it. They still kill gay men and pre-fucked women. It’s really sick, and someone should tell Barack Hussein Obama so.

Of course – a Happy Christmas to you! Remember, he was born to save us from an eternity in hell – which is what we deserve – still do – the impenitent amongst us! That’s why everyone is supposed to be joyful. Imagine. Close call!
