Oh guess what. It turns out Omar Mateen wasn’t a nice quiet loving peaceful citizen even before he murdered over 50 people at Orlando’s largest gay bar and injured over 50 more; no, it turns out he was a violent abuser of – you’ll never guess – women.
The ex-wife of the 29-year-old man suspected of killing 50 people in a Orlando nightclub early Sunday said that he was violent and mentally unstable and beat her repeatedly while they were married.
The ex-wife said she met Omar Mateen online about eight years ago and decided to move to Florida and marry him.
At first, the marriage was normal, she said, but then he became abusive.
“He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety in the wake of the mass shooting. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”
He was a manly man, who didn’t put up with disobedience from women he owned, and lost his shit when he saw two men kissing.

There are reports his father was a supporter of the Taliban. At least one mosque in Orlando has hosted preachers calling for the death of gays.

We all flip out from time to time. Only in certain places and under certain circumstances does that mean that 50 people are killed with battlefield weaponry. Mass murder is not inevitable.
Yes, you do have power – as much as any individual on the planet. Now you just have to use it.
I wonder if we will ever find out how many were killed by the SWAT team.
Male violence is a result of aggrieved entitlement. They don’t “flip out”. They do what thy feel they are entitled to do.

This isn’t ‘male violence’. ‘Male’ isn’t a sufficient condition to commit such an atrocity. Many males are aggrieved, but don’t choose the path of mass murder. It takes much more than just ‘male’ to do this
Nor is it ‘domestic’ violence as the mayor of Orlando claimed.
Nor is it mere ‘gun’ violence either.
‘Male’ is a necessary condition as is ‘gun’, but there’s a third element that when brought into the mix renders all three sufficient conditions for mass murder of this nature
So the ‘not about religion’ cringers are here too?
Yeah, this is an instance of Islamist lone wolf terrorism as well as a hate crime, full stop.

Well it’s at least gender conforming, I think it’s fair to say that much.
He’s coming from one of the two patriarchal religious groups most likely to commit this type of crime so I’d say that’s a given.
