Goldberg writes in his memo that it's his "mission to make sure that we outdo our industry in achieving gender equality." I wonder how he'll do that after making so clear to his female staff that their personhood is secondary to "ideological diversity."

Remember that presidential candidate, the one that suggested women ought to be put to death for abortion? Remember how he didn’t make it through the primaries? No? You remember like I do, right? He is now encamped in the White House, groping women and grabbing pussy with impunity. And now this guy, at the Atlantic.
What in the world is wrong with liberal thinkers that they assume that every single liberal paper, magazine, TV show, everywhere has to have not only a conservative, but the worst reactionary conservative they can find, to balance the liberal thought? Why do we buy into this “got to hear all sides” bullshit? Why do we have to hear all sides when it is women being crapped on, and not have to hear all sides in other issues, like, say, hearing the point of view that Hillary is not evil, that women are not full of “estrogen vibes”, that darker races are not less evolved and therefore less intelligent? The one side must be heard, because they have convinced us that it hasn’t been heard. We know better, but we still insist on pretending otherwise.
This past year, I’ve heard so many calls to end “identity politics” – meaning throw women and non-white people under the bus to get the votes of white males who will never vote for you if you have a D after your name – that I am about to drown in sewage. Someone, please, rescue me. I can’t stand all the shit.

Isn’t David Frum sufficient conservative tokenism for the Atlantic? At least he generally manages to seem intelligent and sane.
I think that’s the problem. He no longer represents American conservative thought.

I’m seeing more and more of this in the media: controversy is traffic. Every media outlet needs their own little Sean Hannity to gin up social media and bring more webpage hits to their sites and thus more subsribers. The Atlantic did not take a sudden right turn into Trumpland; the magazine is following the age-old dictum that sex (and the bashing of sex and gender) sells.
learie, I think even if someone said “men who lynch African-Americans should be hanged”, he would struggle to get a job with the Atlantic. But women? Pshaw. Who cares?

That’s bizarre. They’re the same – I have no idea why any of them were modded.
Probably the fresh hardware and windows upgrade, makes your server think I’m a new commenter.
If all they wanted was clicks. they could get the modern equivalent of Valerie Solanas (she of the SCUM Manifesto who said putting men to death would be a good thing, if my hazy memory serves me well).
But somehow it’s never someone *really* edgy like that.
