Today Trump is blending theocracy with medical malpractice murder.
But they’re not essential. Religion is supposed to be a spiritual thing, so clearly the bodily presence of a particular human can’t be essential. Religion is surely high up on the list of activities, joys, supports, sources of meaning or enlightenment or consolation or all those that can be conducted in solitude or at home with family as opposed to requiring physical presence during a pandemic. I get that the religious community is a major part of the benefits, but I also get that during a pandemic it’s got to be possible to hold the community in your heart as opposed to risking infecting it.
But not Trump. Not Trump who isn’t even religious himself but uses religion as a club to bludgeon Democrats. Not Trump who has chosen to make the pandemic a political issue instead of a medical one.
So that many more people can be infected, many more hospitals can be swamped again, many more people can die…all so that little Don can get his way.
Donnie doesn’t have the power to forcibly open places of worship, he’s so deluded. Also if there is a Trumphead voting base among the religious right, why risk killing them?
Also (off topic) but did you see where Biden said potential black Trumpies “ain’t black”? Not sure this racist moron has what it takes to beat Donnie Dipshit. He’s only marginally better and less abrasive, but he’s sure hell bent to catch up. Choose a (hopefully female) VP running mate wisely Joe, then resign. This is such a mess…
I did see that. I’m working up to finding more about it. Ugh. I will never understand how and why we got stuck with Biden.
If houses of worship are essential, then why not theatres? I consider the plays I go see to be more important to my wellbeing than most other activities, and I am managing. And the theatres have a lot more to lose, because you can’t deliver the same experience through Zoom. The theatres are sucking it up, and providing new and different means of entertainment to those who are on their email/Facebook/whatever lists, so they can help people feel better during this horrible time (and, probably, keep their name in front of their audiences so they can pick up again later, but I’m okay with that). House of worship are centers of population control, and that is what governments like.
White. Male. Not gay. Not Jewish. Not socialist. Totally mainstream, familiar, and boring. Everyone thinks we must throw diversity under the bus if we want to defeat the big nasty orange man. I fear they might be right, but I don’t think Biden’s the one who can do it.
Biden’s gotta do because no one better (and by that I mean someone who could demonstrate broad appeal) showed up to the party. Obama 2.0 stayed home, whoever he/she was).
On the plus side the Democratic party is more liberal than ever and since Biden is so generic that’s going to determine any policies he might implement.

I don’t think we know that about no one who could demonstrate broad appeal though. And can Biden do that? I don’t think so. I hope he can, but I doubt it, which is why this fumbling is so infuriating. Why pick someone who’s even older than Trump? Someone who has run for president and failed before? Someone who excites absolutely no one?
I’ve given up on exciting, not being an utter embarrassment will do. Apparently too much to ask.
He was in the lead nationally the pretty much the entire primary (and I’m almost certain even before he entered the race). Am I convinced he’ll win? No… But who else was coming close?
I still prefer “Any Functioning Adult 2020” to “Anyone But Trump 2020”, but alas, it’s been a while since I got what I wanted, politically speaking. Looking more and more like “Clash of the Stupid Shits 2020” to me…
