Another gruesome bit of fallout from the insurrection:
Three lawmakers who had to shelter for safety during the US Capitol riot have tested positive for Covid-19.
Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington state, announced her positive result early on Tuesday, while chastising Republican colleagues who refused to wear masks while they waited in a secured room for more than five hours.
She’s the Democrat from Seattle; I’m in her district and of course voted for her. It’s simply disgusting that the Republicans refused to wear masks. Disgusting, contemptible, murderous, inexcusable.
The New Jersey representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, also a Democrat, said she decided to get tested because of the possibility of exposure and tested positive. She also tweeted that she was receiving monoclonal antibody treatment – which is still being investigated – on the advice of her doctor. Coleman, 75, is a cancer survivor.
So, high risk. Her Republican “colleagues” may have killed her.
Later on Tuesday, Brad Schneider, another Democrat, from Illinois, announced he too had tested positive. “Today, I am now in strict isolation, worried that I have risked my wife’s health and angry at the selfishness and arrogance of the anti-maskers who put their own contempt and disregard for decency ahead of the health and safety of their colleagues and our staff,” he said in a statement on his website.
What is it even for? I don’t get the politics of it. It’s not free enterprise, it’s not patriotism, it’s not militarism, it’s not religion – what is it? Just being bloody-minded for the sake of it? They’re going with that?
And it gets even worse.

Jayapal called for “serious fines” to be levied on the lawmakers who did not wear a mask, putting their colleagues at risk. Six Republicans, including the Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, were seen on a tape refusing to accept a mask, according to CNN. …
Political infighting over the virus does not seem to be going away with the Trump administration. Greene released a statement about her refusal to protect her colleagues last Wednesday.
“Congresswoman Greene is a healthy adult who tested negative for Covid at the White House just this week,” it said.
“She does not believe healthy Americans should be forced to muzzle themselves with a mask. America needs to reopen and get back to normal.”
There’s no vaccine for stupid.

It’s because liberals/democrats/elites say you should wear a mask, so they’re going to do the opposite. I truly believe there’s nothing more to it than that.

Testing negative sometime in the past week doesn’t mean that you don’t pose a risk to anyone. You can test negative and then get infected with covid five minutes later. Heck, you can test negative while you’re already infected, if it’s early enough in the course of the infection.I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but good god, I just can’t with these clowns.

And people like this Greene nitwit are the ones standing in the way of that. You want normal? Then you need to get the pandemic under control.
I just went to a meeting at my work about trying to get waivers to work remotely; they only have 8 people wanting that, and they are putting us through a nightmare. And they are basically saying “fuck you”, while pretending they are giving us more flexibility, more compassion, more help and decency than anyone else in the universe. They say “yes, we expect to accept some of them”, but I do not see how with the strictures they have put on it, and their claims that there has been no community spread on campus (I think that’s almost certainly wrong, but they back it up with ‘statistics’ – which, by the way, I have discovered to my horror no one on campus knows anything about, except those of us in science).
So now I’m going to have to reveal my mental health problems, because it is impossible to work on campus without being paralyzed mentally. I would be no good to them, or me, or students, that way, whereas working at home I get tons done.
Sorry. Just needed to vent. I sometimes suspect my employer wants me to die so he can replace me with someone younger, maler, and more conservative. Without having to pay me a pension.

I suspect that something like this is in play with Trump. His enablers told him that he’d been impeached once, and Obama had never been impeached, so OF COURSE Trump doubled down. The man is truly exceptional.

“America needs to reopen and get back to normal.” Here in WNY, there was a class-action law suit (initiated by the owner of a strip joint, no less) demanding that the state allow bars & restaurants to reopen & be allowed to make money. Especially since the Buffalo Bills are in the playoffs! So even though we are seeing the highest levels of COVID infections, hospitalizations & deaths since the spring, the bars & restaurants are again open. Of course, they’re not happy with that. They want to have the 10 p.m. closing time changed to at least midnight, if not 2 a.m. What none of these people get is that THERE IS NO NORMAL ANYMORE.
