Giuliani did his bit to rile up the insurrectionists.
Donald Trump has fallen out with his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and is refusing to pay the former New York mayor’s legal bills, it was reported, with the president feeling abandoned and frustrated during his last days in office.
Giuliani played a key role in Trump’s failed attempts to overturn the results of November’s presidential election through the courts. The lawyer mounted numerous spurious legal challenges, travelling to swing states won by Joe Biden, and spread false claims the vote was rigged.
Claims he has to have known were false.
Trump’s refusal to pay Giuliani’s bills is another blow to the former federal prosecutor. Giuliani is already under fire for his own alleged role in inciting Trump supporters to storm the Capitol building.
Addressing Trump’s Save America rally in Washington last week, Giuliani said: “I’m willing to stake my reputation, the president is willing to stake his reputation, on the fact that we’re going to find criminality there.” He pointedly added: “Let’s have trial by combat.”
Michael Sherwin, the acting US attorney for Washington DC, is investigating the riot. He has said he is looking at numerous participants. They include those who instigated the Capitol invasion, a category that might implicate Trump and Giuliani.

“Trial by combat” – can’t stand this warrior language from blokes who can barely walk 100 yards without puffing.
He claims he was just quoting from Game of Thrones. I wonder which underling came up with that one for him? Meanwhile, I doubt that anybody except Rudy is shocked that Trump is stiffing yet another lawyer. I also doubt that anybody except Rudy is shocked that Trump has turned on yet another ally who is of no more use to him.
Gee, who would have seen that coming? Rudi can get in line behind all the other contractors and tradespeople Trump has fucked over.
Normally, stiffing a lawyer on payment is a very bad idea and sure to lead to an even more expensive legal bill. But this lawyer? Trump may actually be in the right on this one. I just hope the fireworks are made public.
Holms, this may be one of those cases where I would root for both to lose. Trump has to pay, but the money goes to charity, or something…or into some fund to help the children of undocumented immigrants.
I remember this story a couple of years ago when a contractor took Trump to court because he hadn’t been paid. He lost but the court did not award costs so his own lawyers had to then sue Trump because he refused to pay them…
Well, they had been warned. They all have been warned a long time ago.
Still it’s quite ironic to see Rudy G. quotes Game of Throne: in that universe, in addition to trial by combat, the fucked up, incestuous and generally evil family – the Lannisters – have an unofficial motto: “We pay our debts”…

The best result would be a long, drawn-out lawsuit that ends up bankrupting both parties.
Oh come now, Maroon. The best result would be a “trial by combat” where they both have fatal infarctions after yelling at their pool boys to lift the swords for them.
