It’s all about the coastal elites. Never mind soaring inequality, never mind low wages and de-unionization and crumbling schools, none of that matters, the real issue is coastal elites who don’t paint names on their barns. Well not names exactly; one name. But let’s pretend we mean names in general.
Would Nick Zerwas have said the same about, say, a grandchild of sharecroppers who painted OBAMA on the roof of a barn?
New York billionaire = Coastal elite.
Seriously. New York is on the coast. Coastal.
Billionaires are the elite. Elite isn’t about being able to speak in complete sentences with words of more than one syllable; elite is about being born into money and not giving a crap about other people.
But no. Someone (maybe FOX News?) decided to change the definition of elite so that New York billionaires became men of the people while ordinary academics who want to make life better for the working class (and everyone else) become coastal elites.
When will backwards day be over? Any word on that yet?
Ah, but Bloomberg is a New York billionaire *and* a coastal elite… because… Reasons?
Because he is running for president as a Democrat against Trump. What more reasons do you need?
Their New York billionaires are ordinary guys, men of the people, just regular folx. Our New York billionaires are coastal elites.
“Coastal elite” has gone the way of “terf”, in that whatever its original meaning may have been, through overuse it has come to mean “enemy”.
Holms, it’s more than just that. It’s nice easy shorthand so lazy thinkers don’t have to think.
Also, where is this mysterious ‘Heartland’ of USA? Are they talking about it’s geographic centre? No no, I think I’m getting the hang of this… it’s anywhere that votes Republican, isn’t it.
Elites are good whatevers right? And I don’t mean good in a moral sense, I just mean they’re good at their jobs.
Elite soldiers are very good soldiers.
Elite scientists are very good scientists.
Elite business people are very good business people.
And the list goes on.
Is Trump an elite soldier? Bone spurs.
Is he an elite scientist? He thinks the scientific consensus is a Chinese hoax, and dumping coal waste into America’s streams is showing dedication to clean water.
Is Trump an elite businessman? Just about every business he’s gotten involved is no longer around, and the ones that are have written into their company rules that he’s not allowed anything to do with running them. He made a small fortune by inheriting a big one.
And so the list goes on.
So while Trump may be coastal and rich, he’s about as far from being elite at anything as any human being has ever managed. Don’t like those gosh darn elites? Hire a moron too stupid not to be a fucking psychopath, that’s so much better than putting people who know what they’re doing in charge of things.
