Mark your calendars

Anthony Grayling is going to be on The Colbert Report on Tuesday to talk about The Good Book.

That’s hitting the jackpot when it comes to promoting a book. It’s also likely to be pretty good fun in itself – like going on tv to have a chat with Alan Bennett, or Jonathan Miller, or John Cleese, or Michael Palin. I would be quite happy to do any of those things, or all four of them, and I would also be quite happy to go on tv to chat with Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert.

By all accounts, Colbert is a very nice guy. I’ve met someone who once worked for the Report – she had gone from that job to being an admin at CFI. Julian and I were having dinner with her about the fourth day we were there, and she told us she’d worked for Colbert. Julian was a bit startled when I exclaimed “You worked for Colbert?” I had to try to explain to him the significance of Colbert. Anyway – she said he’s a truly nice guy, and very considerate of the employees.

Hey up for philosophy for the people, eh? A philosopher does Colbert; not bad!

Thanks for the heads-up…I just set my DVR!

Sweet! I shall have to make sure I watch that night!

Oh, that will be a great match. Colbert seems to most enjoy interviewing people who have the wit to play their part in a kind of improvised, only partly sincere, dialogue. Grayling can do that well, I’m sure.

    Ophelia,

Have you read this “review” of Grayling’s book?

Ken – absolutely. Anthony is a playwright, after all! I told him what Colbert’s schtick is, so I’m sure he’s working on his character. :- )

R – no, I haven’t; thanks. Seeing where it is…I cringe in anticipation.

Right, that’s it; three paragraphs are enough.

Brendan O’Neill is a horrible man – and not decently careful: Grayling didn’t produce the book “in a few months”; it was the work of three decades.

    So much for that “review.”

Ron Paul was on last night, as it turned out! Grayling is on *today* instead. Fortunately, the pre-Paul bits of the show were hilarious.

Actually you must have seen Monday’s. It took me a few months of occasional watching to figure this out – last night’s is repeated the next day early in the evening, so the one at 7:30 pm is actually the one from 11:30 the night before. Anthony was on last night.
