Mermaids training sessions
Mermaids is being investigated by the Charity Commission after The Telegraph revealed “red flags” in its dealings with children.
The regulator said it had opened a “regulatory compliance case” after concerns were raised about the trans charity’s “approach to safeguarding young people”. The charity has been sending potentially dangerous breast binding devices to children behind their parents’ backs and discussing with them how puberty blocking drugs are “totally reversible”.
Mermaids, which receives funding from the taxpayer and runs training sessions for schools, the NHS and police forces, has been contacted by the regulator.
“Training sessions” forsooth. For schools and the National Health Service and the police – all institutions where you really want to get the training right.
When people finally realize that all it took to get them to support horrors against children was a colorful flag and an initialism, will there be even a moment of ashamed humility? Or will they say that they were always against such things?
This is the risk brought by abandoning truth in favor of politeness and expedience. It may be more comfortable immediately, but eventually reality always collects what is due. This debt is becoming impossibly enormous, if it is not already.
Imagine a doctor caught lying to patients about medical interventions being risk free.
I really don’t understand the claim that puberty blocker effects are fully reversible. Maybe in specific circumstances? Like, if you gave a 9 yo girl experiencing precocious puberty blockers until she was 11 or 12, probably. If you give them to a girl to take until she’s 15-18 and she desists then, not a chance. Even if you use supplemental hormones to kick start the puberty you delayed, there will be psycho-social consequences of dislocation from your peer group that are profound in their own right.
New Zealand Health Ministry recently removed the statement ‘safe and reversible’ from it’s website in reference to trans care. They were immediately lambasted by trans activists and came out with a easily statement that they were updating their website language and materials and they did of course still consider puberty blockers to be safe and reversible for trans care. Question is, on what evidence?
