A key pillar

The next thing I read after musing aloud whether Trump is so in the habit of lying that he doesn’t know what it is to know anything, is that William Barr says Trump knew he lost the election. Good enough for me! Barr knows the man and I don’t, so I’ll take Barr’s word for it (despite Barr’s squalid history of doing Trump’s foul bidding).

Former Attorney General Bill Barr on Wednesday undermined a key pillar of his old boss’ defense in the special counsel’s probe into 2020 election interference, telling CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that Donald Trump “knew well he lost the election.”

Barr went on to say he’s shocked, shocked.

The former attorney general also described Trump’s alleged actions as detailed in the indictment as “nauseating” and “despicable,” saying on “The Source,” “someone who engaged in that kind of bullying about a process that is fundamental to our system and to our self-government shouldn’t be anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Indeed not. Trump should never have been near that office for a long list of nauseating and despicable actions, which Barr was well aware of while he was Trump’s Attorney General. Despicables flock together.

He gets only the bestest lawyers.

A lawyer for former President Donald Trump, Alina Habba, told reporters Thursday that “everybody was made aware” he lost the 2020 election — a key part of the case against him, which may hinge on prosecutors’ ability to show that Trump sought to overturn the election even though he knew he had lost. Trump’s legal and political advisers repeatedly told him he had lost the election but he continued to push forward anyway.

    [snip]

Former senior FBI agent Peter Strzok pointed out that Habba had effectively echoed the very “allegation” against Trump. “Thank you for confirming an element of the crime,” quipped national security attorney Bradley Moss.

Alina Habba has an impressive CV.

Habba is a member of the Bar Associations of New Jersey, New York, and the American Bar Association. She is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut. She has served as lead counsel for many cases, including a federal class action suit against a New Jersey nursing home accused of various negligent acts and consumer fraud violations.

Habba has also held the position of general counsel for a large parking management and real estate investment firm. She has represented clients in various legal cases including a man suing a nursing home in New Jersey, a student seeking a refund for tuition after University of Bridgeport moved classes to an online format.

In July 2021, Habba represented Siggy Flicker, former star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey who alleged that Facebook had disabled her account for wishing Melania Trump a happy birthday.

In July 2021, Habba represented Caesar DePaço, a pharmaceutical entrepreneur, in a federal court case where he filed a lawsuit against Portuguese journalists for revealing his close connections to the far-right Chega party in Portugal.

    Yep, only the best people.
