The person who wrote this tweet has just been convicted of rape. I despair at the staggering naivety of so many people in decision-making roles who seem to believe that some topics let them off thinking about and dealing with the full dark complexity of humanity. pic.twitter.com/Md0aqbh0R6

So it turns out that that Lexi Bowen was just convicted of rape? Why yes, as the BBC reported (badly, evasively) just a couple of days ago. I objected to its distortions at the time. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Huh. A male rapist siding with the management that lets male people enter a women’s rape shelter. Maybe he’s angling for a spot there in the future?

Well, the ‘male’ part of ‘male rapist’ is redundant, as the definition of rape is ‘unwanted penetration with a penis’; otherwise it’s sexual assault.
Of course a predator wants to have free access to prey. He hates JKR for pointing out the wolves in the flock, because his sympathies are entirely on the side of the rapists, and he obviously believes (as do a frighteningly high number of men) that women shouldn’t have the right to say no to any man for any reason.

As this case is in the UK, it is correct that rape by definition can only be committed by males. It is not redundant in the US to refer to a “male rapist”, although I expect that’s the vast majority of the cases.

Sackbut, it is almost all the cases. Cases of female rapists also are usually statutory. It is typically consensual, but with a minor, often a teacher having sex with one of her teenage students.
