have you ever wondered?
Joyce Carol Oates plays dumb.
Yeah and what’s all this fuss about Trump’s war on immigrants? Why is everybody yelling about Elon Musk? What’s the big deal about global warming? So what if Trump is corrupt and incompetent and stupid? Who cares if California burns to the ground? Why do people even need food?

We are closer to the end than the beginning.
Eh bien, continuons.
I have wondered — head-bangingly so — why
-the choices of boys and men to invade anything and everything set aside for girls and women isn’t blindingly obviously a harm to girls and women,
-anyone in their right mind would say that it “doesn’t affect” anyone else, like all girls and women, and
-so many people can say with a straight face that it shouldn’t matter to women and girls.
WTF are they smoking? They have lost their ever-loving minds. Not to mention their empathy, “kindness,” and all the other things they berate women for lacking when we don’t welcome boys and men to destroy all our sex-based rights.
Maddog, I totally agree with your post. But take heart, at least in the UK, there’s been a huge decline in public support for the demands of trans activists. https://x.com/WomensRightsNet/status/1952031002718544037
According to the polls, men are no longer on board with the trans agenda. What worries me is the continued acceptance of trans demand among women, including intelligent women like JC Oates.
“How are you personally harmed” is a question that can only be asked by women in certain circumstances:
-They run no risk of being incarcerated, in which case they might have to suffer sexual violence in jail by “trans women” inmates;
-They rarely have to use public facilities formerly set aside for women, such as bathrooms, changing rooms, etc, where they might be subject to predation by males pretending to be, or believe they are, women;
-They don’t have children in the age range of the children to be groomed in schools to join the trans cult;
-They don’t participate, or who have family members who participate, in girls or women’s sport, who can be physically harmed by males competing with them;
-They don’t have to work in any organization where human resources may require them to lie on a daily basis (e.g. call a hulking, stubbly man “she”) in order not to lose their jobs;
In short, it’s nice to be Joyce Carol Oates. I want to live in an ivory tower when I grow up. If you can always keep the rabble out of your proximity, you don’t have to worry about any social problems among them.
What is it about using uppercase letters at the beginning of sentences that bothers Joyce Carol Oates? Why does she use “persons” rather than “people”? Why is she so fond of question marks that she even inserts them? in the middle of a question?
To be fair, playing dumb has proved to be an excellent strategy. To be accurate, it’s only an excellent strategy if you’re audience is ignorant, which until recently was the case. Since it is no longer the case a wise person would contemplate a new strategy. Maybe try the “it’s complicated” strategy. It won’t work but it will buy you time and you might have a chance of coming out of this thing not look like a complete fool. (Never go complete fool – these days that role is reserved for Trump.)
Now that the genderist are rowing back on gender identity (nonsense, but relatively straightforward nonsense) I predict a bull market in increasingly byzantine bullshit. OK, that metaphor’s a bit off. There will be an upsurge in production. I doubt many will be buying. Thankfully, byzantine bullshit is a niche taste and most of what the genderists have produced is well past it’s use-by date and the new stuff will never get traction in the mass market.
This part of her twit got cut off:
So, Ophelia, the gauntlet has been thrown. Why have you never denounced Trump and his administration?
Sumi @ 3 – I don’t think Oates is an intelligent woman. She gives absolutely no sign of intelligence in these eruptions. Her remarks and replies are strikingly (and consistently) stupid.
I suppose it’s possible to remain ignorant of just how misogynistic, stereotype reinforcing, and anti-feminist the trans cult is. After all, there are far more people who are not directly affected than are, or don’t realize how they are affected (indirectly), but soon will be, by the permeating erosion of women’s rights as a whole that the trans cult promotes unless there isn’t some kind of sane reversal and intolerance for trans ideology. I hestitate to think JCO is one of those who lives in a bubble of this sort, given that she is active and opines on social media. Or what Ophelia said, I haven’t seen many of JCO’s comments. JCO’s cavalier and snooty comment above leads me to wonder how much she’s thought about it at all.
Ignorant is one thing and stupid is another. JCO appears to be ignorant as well as stupid, but it’s the stupid that always surprises me.
