We both agreed you gotta do what we say
Trump says he agreed with his Russian counterpart in talks Friday that the Ukraine war will end with land swaps and some type of security guarantee from the US.
Asked by Fox News’ Sean Hannity about territorial concessions that would give Russia land it didn’t have previously and potential US security assurances for Ukraine, Trump said it was a point of agreement with Vladimir Putin.
“Well, I think those are points that we negotiated, and those are points that we largely have agreed on,” he said. “Actually, I think we agree on a lot. I can tell you, the meeting was a warm meeting.”
He called Putin a “strong guy” and “tough as hell,” but said the meeting was positive. “I think we’re pretty close to the end. And look, Ukraine has to agree to it,” he said.
Brilliant. Peachy. Trump gives Putin whatever he wants, and says Zelenskyy has to agree.

This shameful farce is just like the Munich Agreement all over again. As Anne Applebaum and others keep pointing out, Putin has never even expressed any interest in peace or modified his official goal of ending the existence of Ukraine as a sovereign nation. To Trump, on the other hand, it’s all about his own ego, just like everything else.
“Ukraine has to agree with it,” he said.
Does Ukraine, though? What possible interest could Ukraine have in retreating from their heavily fortified front line to make a new front line farther back? As long as Trump is President, US security assurances are worth nothing. This plan doesn’t end the war, it just gives Russia a free advance and restarts the war with a greater advantage to Russia.
The threat of holding back American arms isn’t big enough to move Ukraine; Europe can and will supply Ukraine. The only real threat Trump has over Ukraine is that the US will begin to supply Russia instead. Is that where he’s heading?
Bjarte, it’s worse than Munich. The Russians have been bogged down in Ukraine for three years.
It is very very Munich though. It is just giving Putin what he wants when what he wants is to devour Ukraine.
