Speaking of freedom, Quentin Tarantino may be a dick, but his movies do include some real musical gems. This one from Django Unchained gives me goosebumps every time:
As a life-long music lover, one of the things I enjoy doing is compiling playlists on Apple Music, so when I turned 50 a little over a year ago (I’m currently 51), I decided to make a list featuring one favorite song by a different artist for every year I had been alive. It wasn’t part of any intentional effort to make a point, but in retrospect if felt weirdly appropriate that the last three songs on the list were Rats Return by Porcupine Tree (2022), Devil on the Rise by German guitar-goddess Yasi Hofer (2023), and Hell Is Near by St. Vincent (2024).
Well now.
This kind of thing would get me into a church.
If they would have me.
