Applying the social pressure

Ok ok yes I know I can’t force people to believe ridiculous things…but I sure as hell can bully them into pretending to believe them!

Useful, in a way, to see one of them admit it. “Come here, bitch, I need to apply some social pressure to you.”

Well, by claiming that sex/gender is an identity, trans dogmatists are intellectually and politically harming feminists. Impasse? How about we call it based on which claim is more fucking ludicrous.

He’s a philosophy grad student, by the way, which seems kind of sad.

false comparison. by denying trans people’s identities, you are materially and emotionally hurting them

    “Materially” hurting them how?

Is this more of that “Trans women get beat up because gender critical women aka eeevil TERFs say they are not women” wankbadgery?

He’s openly bragging now that he is, yes, going to “bully” women and men.

False comparison? David Nagy obviously hasn’t spent much time telling devout theists he doesn’t believe in a soul ( or God.)

Some of them do indeed complain that they are being deeply, deeply hurt by hearing such denials. They’re so close to God. They know He’s real. It’s like being told they’re not real. That’s how sure they are, and how mean you are.

    Apologetics are apologetics.

Aren’t real-life blasphemy laws around the world justified because the devout are supposedly being offended, harmed, or otherwise wronged?

What Sastra said. We are often told we need to keep our mouths shut about no god, because the belief in God is part of their…wait for it…identity. Yes, identity.

I find a lot of parallels between belief in trans ideology and belief in transubstantiation. There are those who are happy to accept things on a symbolic level, a position something short of an unqualified belief that the substance/essence/DNA of things has changed–but it’s not enough for the true believer.

There are right wingers making noise about a coming civil war that involves real war. What happens to bullies like this Nagy when he runs into people who are just NOT going to be bullied?

Coincidentally, today’s Atheist Quote of the Day is:

“Coerced belief is no belief at all; it is tyranny.”

Another way this is like religion is the old saying (one I heard often from proselytizing friends): “Fake it until you make it”.

Then, once you persuade them to fake it (for their own good? Because of Crusades? Inquisitions? Inability to get elected to office? Loss of friends?) you hit them with ritual and music and fasting and all sorts of things designed to make your brain see things that aren’t there….in the case of trans, it’s simply the constant insistence. They don’t get the way to use ritual and music yet, but it works in amazing ways.

Another activity that utilizes ritual and music to make true believers is sports.

Let’s hope trans never starts using those techniques; force will not make true believers, nor will social pressure, but it can make true liars of people who simply want to live their life and not be hit with bats. Those techniques can make true believers.
