If only they had thought of that

Warren is out, so we have to choose between Biden and Sanders to get the sack of shit out of office. I’m disgusted.

The sack of shit thinks his random thoughts are more authoritative than the informed thoughts of people with relevant education.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday night spun a web of theories minimizing the coronavirus’ threat to Americans, accusing the World Health Organization of dispensing inaccurate facts about the outbreak, and suggesting that those with the disease could be safe going to work.

During expansive remarks on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s program, the president continued to break with public health officials’ more dire messaging regarding the international crisis and forcefully contradicted the WHO, which earlier in the week pegged the global mortality rate for the coronavirus at 3.4 percent.

Donald Trump is not someone who should be “forcefully” correcting the WHO, because he can barely find his own ass in the dark.

“Well, I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. Now, and this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this. Because a lot people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor. They don’t even call a doctor,” Trump said.

Hunch shmunch. His hunches are not relevant to anything, and he should keep them to himself. He’s a pig-ignorant real estate huckster, and he has nothing to tell us about COVID19.

“You never hear about those people. So you can’t put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and — or virus. So you just can’t do that,” he continued. “So if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work but they get better.”

Look at him. He thinks the people telling us about the estimates don’t know that.

When you have a lot of people getting a disease, a lot of people can get better for a mortality rate of 3.4%.

This sounds like Trump trying to pretend he’s got great intuition when he’s probably just repeating something I’ve read from several sources concerning the problem of coming up with accurate mortality numbers, especially so early. The 3.4% might — mind you, might — be an overestimation. The earliest statistics from China also suggested the disease is more fatal for men than women, but, again, the men in China often smoke, the women don’t, and that confounds the issue. They also suspect there may be several different strains being counted as one.

Trump doesn’t belong anywhere near nuance or ambiguity. “Hunch.” Ffs

Yet he sends out a tweet the very next day saying the US has “only 129 cases” … and 11 deaths.

That would be an 8.5% mortality rate.

Every single utterance of his is absolute nonsense.

A friend of mine who’s a doctor in Wisconsin pointed out on Facebook that until a day or two ago he wasn’t allowed to order Corvid19 testing for anyone who didn’t have confirmed contact with a known carrier of the virus, even a patient who had arrived severely ill from Wuhan (it wasn’t clear to me if that was a hypothetical in his original post , but I took it from further comments that it actually happened). I commented that any estimates of mortality should be seen as a ceiling, but then he pointed out that without testing, you can’t know if someone who’s reported as dying of the flu actually had Corvid19. Also that China, at least when the disease first broke out, had similar issues.

So, we don’t know the numerator, we don’t know the denominator, but hey, at least we’ve got Trump’s hunch.

How can the fatality rate be as high as 3.4% when more than 95% of people don’t die?! It just doesn’t add up! I am the best number guy!

    …wasn’t allowed to order Corvid19 testing…

Wait, now crows and bluejays are getting it too? :-)

As a result I had my supervisor undermine me with “the media is blowing it out of proportion” when I was trying to instill disease preparedness at an all hands floor meeting (I’m the safety rep)…

I want to punch him in his fucking face.

    Bruce Coppola,

I grew up in Massachusetts. Corvid, covid, it’s all the same.

Clarity in language is important. Mortality rate is not the number dying from infection, it is the number of deaths in a given population.

A mortality rate of 3.4% for the USA would mean about 11 Million deaths.

When the shit hits the fan, just blame a black man.

Donald Trump has blamed his government’s shambolic response to the coronavirus epidemic on the Obama administration – without offering any evidence or explanation.

    Because of course he did.

The US president claimed the Obama administration “made a decision on testing that turned out to be very detrimental to what we’re doing, and we undid that decision a few days ago so that the testing can take place in a much more accurate and rapid fashion”.

“Don’t blame me, blame the black man!”

Yes, I had that from a student this week, who said it can be treated with Ibuprofen, what’s the big deal, and most of those who were sick in China just had a cold, but were called coronavirus to elevate the statistics, and because of laziness.

and most of those who were sick in China just had a cold, but were called coronavirus to elevate the statistics, and because of laziness.

Because the Chinese government has been… so quick to inflate… the number of infected people?

There’s a flaw in this reasoning. Somewhere.

Don’t forget about Tulsi Gabbard. She’s still in. She even won a delegate and theoretically qualified for the next debate (although they’ll probably change the rules on her).

Ha ha, OK, you can probably forget about Tulsi Gabbard.

Yeah, it sucks. I’m hoping whoever it is will pick a strong and interesting VP candidate. I think Biden-Warren would be a decent Democratic unity ticket and position Warren well for 2024 (or is Biden really going to run again at age 81?).

Those are the crumbs we can hope for.

It sounds to me that Trump ought to go visit some of these infected people just to show off how amazingly robust he is to his rabid fanbase.
