Charlotte’s gender identity

I missed this news item from DC a couple of years ago:

The Cuba Libre restaurant in Penn Quarter has agreed to institute civil rights training for employees and pay a $7,000 fine following an incident in June in which two staff members attempted to prevent a transgender woman from using the ladies bathroom.

D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine announced today that his office had reached a settlement with the Washington location of the chain following an investigation that found Cuba Libre DC violated the city’s Human Rights Act by discriminating against Charlotte Clymer’s gender identity and failing to educate its employees on customers’ rights.

Customers’ rights? Or customers who are trans women’s rights. Clearly women’s rights are not on anyone’s mind here.

The restaurant agreed to:

  • Create and maintain written compliance policies regarding gender identity rights.
  • Implement and maintain a training program regarding customers’ rights.
  • Post signage that states all individuals are allowed to use bathrooms corresponding to their gender identities.
  • Report any complaints regarding the Human Rights Act to the attorney general’s office for the next two years.
  • Pay a $7,000 penalty to the city.

No mention of women’s rights to use “bathrooms corresponding to their” sex.

Days after Clymer’s story of the discrimination she suffered at Cuba Libre made headlines, Gutin issued a public apology and pledged to make a contribution to an LGBTQ support group, Casa Ruby.

According to city’s investigation referenced in the settlement, Cuba Libre has fired the employees involved, already instituted many of the changes it has agreed to make, and entered into a separate settlement with Clymer that included a charitable donation to a non-profit.

Two employees who tried to protect women from a man (the former Charles Clymer at that) in their toilet were fired.

I am astounded. Flummoxed. It’s all false. It’s untrue. It’s a lie. Maybe you can fool almost all the people, all the time. Lincoln was wrong.

Yes. I’m afraid the jury is still out on Lincoln.

The only other possible place I can think of where those sporting male genitalia would be allowed into the womens’ washroom would have to be wherever it was they held the Mad Hatter’s tea party.

    Wonderland…. Yes, you’d think so, wouldn’t you?

From his tweets, Clymer seems like an AGP type who gets off not just on invading women’s spaces, but on making it impossible for them to do anything about it.

…all individuals are allowed to use bathrooms corresponding to their gender identities.

What about those of us for whom any “gendering” what so ever is misgendering and any bathroom that “corresponds” to any gender identity is gender-inappropriate. Are we entitled to our own bathrooms too?

I’m surprised businesses aren’t opting to have single occupant restrooms that are locked and require going to a ring bearer to open the door.

    The “gas station” model, then.

Down by our beach, the city has taken down the old “men” and “women” restroom/changing buildings and replaced them with either portajohns (single occupancy, of course) or actual buildings with single-occupant lockable washrooms.

    single-occupant lockable washrooms.

Which always seem to make the trans lobby really, really angry. Which sort of gives the game away, doesn’t it? It isn’t about peeing…you can pee all by yourself alone in a locked restroom. It’s about forcing women to accept the men in their spaces, invading women’s spaces, and in some cases, pervving on women.

This must have been before Clymer bought the gold lame handbag: https://twitter.com/cmclymer/status/1060699882506383360?lang=en

I bought a gold lamé pocketbook about two months ago, and it is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. You see, every time I take it out, there’s just no mistaking it. No cashier can look at it and reach any other conclusion than I must be a woman. (thread)

Any confusion in their brains around my gender identity immediately evaporates when they see it. Sometimes, I can actually see it happen in their facial expressions ever so subtly.

So there you have it. Female “identity” is an accessory.

Ooops. Damned autofill used my work e-mail, which borked the comment that was supposed to precede the above, which was to say the above incident must have happened before Clymer bought The Handbag:

Are you saying that it’s all about power? But that straightaway transforms the whole thing from being a struggle of an oppressed minority for rights equal with everyone else’s to it being all about that minority’s megalomania.(!) I mean, the Human Rights Act has been invoked here and a $7,000 ‘settlement’ paid. And for what? Some bastard’s right to perve? While playing the standover man?

If we can’t take this at face value, what hope is left? (We all do need sure and certain hope. I think that is a given, and established on that other thread on this very site.)

How many low-wage workers has Charles Clymer gotten fired? Didn’t some cab driver or other lose his job with Mister Clymer whined? And now these restaurant workers? The Republican Party is really missing an opportunity to do a great campaign blitz with a list of how many poor working class people have been fired due to the Elite Trans Clymer and his ilk. Really rub it in how, in Biden/Kamala world, the men in womanface rule over the working Americans with an iron fist and a gold lame purse.

That… Really isn’t a bad idea… Might even be a net positive for everyone.

A consequence of this is that minimum-wage employees will now be more reluctant to challenge men they suspect are up to no good in places where women are vulnerable, lest they lose their job.

Being a cynic I suspect that Clymer knows this, and it’s a feature not a bug.

(and yes I do remember the poor taxi driver getting fired for checking the name of the hulking great bloke who got in his cab when he was expecting ‘Charlotte’)
