Medal of skunkery, it should be. Shirtsleeves Jordan gets his gong:
President Donald Trump on Monday awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, one of the outgoing president’s fiercest GOP allies.
And by “fiercest” PBS means most dishonest, most bullying, most shameless.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom, established by President John F. Kennedy, is meant to recognize those who have made an “especially meritorious contribution” to national security, world peace or ”cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
It’s not meant to recognize those who have done favors for a criminal president.
Last week, Trump awarded the Medal of Freedom to another Republican ally, Rep. Devin Nunes of California, in a private ceremony.
Another truly horrible human being.
Trump has not appeared in public since delivering a grievance-filled speech five days ago at a rally near the White House shortly before a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol as Congress began formally counting the Electoral College votes to certify his defeat to Democrat Joe Biden.
Maybe his face has turned green and started dropping off.

Give it enough time, and even the best wine will surely turn to vinegar.
Meanwhile Bill Belichick, the notorious cheater (coach of the Patriots), is being praised for turning down an award he never deserved. Why bother being a lying cheater if you won’t be recognized by other lying cheaters, or in this case probably the most notorious lying cheater in recent history. Maybe Donnie will give Lance Armstrong one too, after all, drug enhanced bicycle riding is so fucking heroic. The lesson here, for me anyway, is never underestimate the sheer stupidity of ambitious narcissists with no morals.
Let us hope so. Anything to occupy him before he’s ready to bomb Iran.
I’m not too familiar with Jim Jordan, but I agree that Nunes is as horrible as they get.
As irrelevant, venal, and dishonest as Bill Belichick is, association with Trump’s Medalists is detrimental for his brand. I don’t blame him for not wanting to be associated with that rogue’s gallery.
I don’t think his brand will suffer much either way. Regardless of what he says or where he draws the line, Belichick’s legacy (and brand) is already compromised. He is a cheater. If Trump’s denial of that is somehow related to the award, I would find it unironic.
Accusations of cheating against Belichick are, uh, overblown.

WaM , I’m sure it is overblown (aren’t all pro sports conflicts? ;)), and I haven’t been a pro sports fan for decades so I won’t argue the point. I’m sure there’s more to the story than punitive fines and team rivalry though, there always is…

The letter was inexcusable. I do think his message yesterday was sincere; Belichick’s never cared much about what others think about him.
But I don’t mean to derail; I know our host doesn’t like football. I think the more important point here is that regardless of B’s motives, it’s another blow to Trump’s ego.
Well it’s not akin to Sartre refusing the Nobel, perspectivally speaking. ;)
