Pyroconvective events

So…it looks as if this phenomenon could set whole continents on fire.

Lightning strikes cause fires. The horrific fire season in California last year was partly caused by thousands of lightning strikes.

This is not good.

This is completely terrifying. I remember the fear of lightning from living in Australia. OK, so it was awe-inspiring to watch lightning flashing within and between clouds, as if there were some tremendous battle taking place in the sky between gods and dragons; but the fear that, at any moment, a lightning bolt might earth itself, thus starting a devastating fire, was ever present.
