Because they don’t trust

It’s Put People Off the Vax day again.

I can’t find a link to the statement itself, including on Trump’s website, only to people citing it, so that’s irritating. Mediaite reports on it but doesn’t link to it. Maybe someone has taken it down.

Donald Trump stirred up vaccine opposition on Sunday, even linking it to his false claims about the 2020 election.

There has been significant focus on Trump supporters either being hesitant to get vaccines or outright refusing to, even though the vaccines were developed under Operation Warp Speed during his administration.

So Trump decided to amp up the distrust. Such a helpful, caring man.

This is impossible. I have been assured that the reason for vaccine resistance is that liberals have been insufficiently nice.

So Trump, who took credit for the speedy development of the vaccine, and has been vaccinated himself along with all his coddled family (all before the rest of us I might add), is now an antivaxxer? The same guy who promoted bleach and light injections? Can he only find support in the stupidest segments of society? The same segments he loathes and has nothing but contempt for? I’d like to say this is surprising, but no.

@#2: Such types commonly refer to the general populace as ‘the sheeple’. Though that expression may be over Trump’s head, as he likes the company of bottom-feeders..

This graph says it all really

Vaccination rate correlates with POTUS vote down to the county level. Hard to see this and assume politics and media diets have nothing to do with vaccine decisions.Turning Fauci into a caricatured villain, wanting Biden to fail, Fox blaring conspiracy theories: all factors.6/x pic.twitter.com/yKMPYCXERd— Nicholas Grossman (@NGrossman81) July 18, 2021

Wait. “Operation Warp Speed”? Why is the first time I’m hearing this?

Operation Warp Speed was a program to use a public – private partnership to develop vaccines. It’s a rather political tool, as the Trump admin siphoned 10 billion dollars from the CARES act’s provisions for hospital supplies, equipment, and care expenses without authorization from Congress. Now it’s something that Trump uses to take credit for developing a vaccine that he disavows. It’s utility in developing the vaccine is debated, but I am not sure if this is also more of a politicla position in itself. By making the entire COVID-19 issue political it is increasingly difficult to separate fact from fiction in perspective-laden reporting.

Note to day that I do accept that the numbers are growing in cases among the unvaccinated who would rather choke on an intubator in order to live for 10 days than do what the government says,to spread a virus in Freedom’s name as a pro-life voter.

I think that in those states with low vaccination rates we would better serve the world by shipping vaccines to countries who want the vaccines but aren’t getting enough of it. It’s ludicrous that so many doses should go to waste because Americans are too stupid to understand that Freedom necessitates taking responsibility. Why should people in Africa suffer and die because Americans are being broadcast deadly propaganda?

Oh, they recognize that. Whenever they tell someone to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” or to take responsibility for their lack of opportunities. MTG recognizes the need for responsibility when the person is BLM, but not when the person is an anti-vaxxer. They see the need for those black men being shot by police to take responsibility for the fact that they were somewhere they shouldn’t be (in someone’s opinion) or that they had once passed a bad check, or that they were selling cigarettes illegally…none of which, I might note, carry the death penalty as the recognized penalty for the transgression, but which appears to be deemed appropriate for such things as driving while black, walking while black, breathing while black….

Responsibility is for other people, not for good Republican (white) Americans. They are responsible to no one but themselves because, you know, freedom.

    I stand corrected.

Thank you for going to the trouble of giving a serious and informative answer, Mike. I feel bad, because I was actually just laughing at the name of the project!

I wonder if Mr. Trump is the one who came up with it!

Well it does go nicely with “space patrol” or “space force” or whatever it is.

    Re #12

The Space Force flag is reminiscent of the Star Fleet emblem from Star Trek, so Operation Warp Speed would fit with that concept.

Don’t feel bad, I was going to say exactly the same thing. I’m fairly sure I haven’t heard the name either, I would definitely have glorified in its stupidity if I had.

This is one of the most frustrating things for me about Trump and his many impersonators (especially Johnson). Apart from the bleeding obvious, of course. I mean the short-term-gain as absolute priority over all things. Now would be the time to swoop in acting the statesman. He could still criticise Biden but tell everyone to get behind the vaccination efforts and look the bigger man.

But he can’t do that. Can’t conceive of anything but the nearest local maximum.
