The belief in reality

India Willoughby was on BBC Question Time this evening. There are some clips…

“The individual is a rapist.”

I guess “rapist” is one of the 8,938,163,492 genders. But what are the proper pronouns?

I haven’t watched it, but I’m told at at one point Willoughby asks whether, if he were raped on a night out, he ought to be sent to a men’s or a woman’s prison.

Um…. we’re not actually in the habit of sending rape victims to prison, India.

The correct question would have been “which prison would I go to if I raped someone”? But that doesn’t cast Willoughby as the victim. Especially as the answer would have been “a men’s prison, obviously”.

Having cast about very briefly, I see that Willoughby uses this tactic so often that it’s quite disturbing. Usually he asks whether or not he should go to a women’s shelter “if I’m raped….. looking like this” with a flourish at his face and body.

    I am currently very angry.

I don’t think that deflecting the rapist as a “rapist” in place of using the word “Man” helps that much, because as far as I know, Scotland doesn’t have separate prisons for rapists. And if they did, then trans ID males would still be in the same “danger” if they were sent there as they are in a bog-standard men’s prison.

If the question is placed as “Is it A or is it B?” in order to sort which slot the tab goes into, answering “pi” is not going to help find the slot.

And, the scene was cut on the sentence about the Indvidual being a victim, so I’m curious as to what that was all about.
