No, the row is over whether it should allow men who are trans. It’s not about being trans, it’s about being men, because the Women’s Institute is for women.
Sheposted on social media a screenshot of the WI website thankingherfor a ‘one-off purchase of WI Supporter Plus’ membership and added the caption: ‘Fantastic news, now a Women’s Institute member.’But other Twitter users highlighted
herrecent warnings thatshehad drawn up a list of dozens of critics of gender ideology to help friends who wanted to murder them – although last nightsheclaimed the messages had not been meant seriously.…
MsVarma, who lives in Greater Manchester and claims to have recently joined the Labour Party, uses two Twitter accounts.Using one account, under the name DJ Miss Gripper,
shehas also boasted aboutherlove of fighting. In one message last monthshewrote: ‘I’ve permanently paralysed nine people from the neck down.‘Am a gold medal holder shao’lin kung fu champion. Be careful who you threaten, I can make one phone call, call a favour in and end of troll.’
It’s extraordinary how many times the Daily Mail endorses this guy’s ridiculous claim to be a woman, even while underlining how ridiculous it is and how dangerous he is.
In another
shesaid: ‘I am very violent and cruel when I fight and have never lost in 320 fights in 40 years.’ And in a series of other tweets, also now deleted but widely shared online,shespoke of drawing up a kill list of gender critics, known as ‘terfs’.
Shesaid two friends were ‘going to murder the top 50 prominent terf’ if being trans was made illegal in the UK and had been ‘making a snuff list’.Last night on
herother account, under the name Dr Shanu Varma,sheclaimed the kill list messages had been a sting operation.Shewrote thatshehad ‘published some disinformation yesterday only to delete this morning as I wanted to see who would out themselves’.And
shesaid thatsheremoved the tweets ‘as the onslaught was horrible’, with ‘thousands and thousands of nasty’ messages, whichshehas given to Greater Manchester Police.
Aw diddums did the mean women say mean things to you just for saying you’re going to put a lot of women on a hit list?

It’s interesting how many tactics they share in common with MAGA-hat wearers. Shout at people who disagree with you. Threaten violence. Claim you were doing it ironically. Complain about being silenced/persecuted. Rinse. Repeat.

@2 Sometimes rinse, repeat, but frequently as well, they shut down all social media after their creepiness is revealed and reported on. I couldn’t find this dude anywhere. Slithered back into his hole he did.
Also, dude is deeply, pitiably insecure about his “identity”.

Varma has a long, long history of misogynistic abuse and is well known to the police. I have it on good authority that Manchester police are currently taking statements from women about some of his latest behaviour. Jean Hatchet successfully sued him for libel in about 2020-21 and I understand he’s been cautioned by police in the past.
I’m about 95% sure that he was behind some especially nasty ableist death threads I received a few months ago. I normally ignore these, but they contained some information about my location so I felt I had to report them to the police. I showed the threats to several people who have dealt with Varma for years and they agreed that it was probably him (tone, key phrases, other quirks).
He always has numerous accounts on the go, most in the name of “gripper” or some variant but I’ve come across several less obvious ones. If you’ve been subject to the charming “GCFuckups” account on Twitter, that’s one of his. He likes to use that account to accuse GC people of bestiality and for telling outright lies about them.
Several people have suggested that one of my stalkers is Varma. I’m not quite convinced, but that person uses the same tactic of having several accounts which he shuts down and reactivates every so often, all largely dedicated to gathering information and posting abuse about a particular person (in this case, me). He’s also spread the lie that I steal money from the charity I raise money for, which is exactly what Varma libellously accused Jean of. So who knows? It could be him.
Either way, Varma is yet another TRA who is dangerous precisely because he’s so obsessive and because he is perfectly willing to go to extreme lengths in pursuit of those obsessions, regardless of any potential consequences.
At least the WI revoked his application, but it’s because of his violence, not because he’s a man.
