The miracle of a certificate

A woman is somebody who is born a woman or somebody who has a certificate.

So, a rabbit is somebody who is born a rabbit or somebody who has a certificate. A shark is somebody who is born a shark or or somebody who has a certificate. A polar bear is somebody who is born a polar bear or or somebody who has a certificate.

How does this work, exactly? How does a certificate change the facts of the DNA of a living organism? Can anyone explain it?

Haven’t you heard? DNA is a western colonialist invention! The early societies had no concept of it until Charles Darwin and James Watson conspired together to force everyone to have DNA! And that happened in England. We all know England was a major imperialist power, so there!

DNA is just a construct created by the tyrannical empires to make sure colonized people maintained their place in life and didn’t realize that they were entitled to equality. Now the younger generation is giving us proper instruction, and we should shut up and listen. We should check our privilege as DNA-havers and quit trying to subjugate those who are forced into accepting DNA as a “fact”. After all, have you ever seen DNA? No?

I have to confess, I was assigned-DNA at birth (ADNAAB). I now freely renounce my privilege and join the ranks of those who recognize their DNA-less state. If you can’t, you are a TNDNAERDNAH (Trans-non-DNA exclusive radical DNA-haver).

Harriet Harman is a lawyer and she has given a lawyer’s response:

I would say a woman is somebody who is born a woman or somebody who under the Gender Recognition Act 2004 has been certified as having transitioned from a man to a woman and I would say a man is somebody who was born a man or somebody who is certified under the Gender Recognition Act as having transitioned from a man.

She is also defending a piece of legislation brought in by a Labour administration in which she was Solicitor General at the time.

What I find notable and indeed, worthy of respect in the current climate is what she says next:

I strongly support the right of people to hold views on any bit of legislation they don’t agree with. They should be able to say they don’t agree with it and they should be able to speak out and they should never be harassed and they should never be threatened and they should never be intimidated for speaking out…

iknklast, it’s as though they think everything is akin to Socrates’s myth of the metals in Republic, designed to trick people into accepting the rulers’ world order. Of course, that’s the core of Foucault’s theory of knowledge, so it tracks. It’s also consistent with what we see in Critical Theory and its progeny, from “false consciousness” to “white fragility”.

“Born a man or legally recognized as having transitioned from woman to man” and its obverse are, of course, paradoxical, because they make every transitioned person both man and woman.
