On several occasions, the American trans author Gretchen Felker-Martin has expressed a desire for GFN’s political opponents (including Jesse Singal, Helen Joyce and J. K. Rowling) to die violently.
“Blood on Jessie [sic] Singal’s hands, blood on Helen Joyce’s, Rowling’s, every just-asking-questions journalist and fear-mongering TERFs. You’re scared for your children? They’re killing ours. … If they all had one throat, man.”
While Federated Farmers – who have long sparred with Joy and loathe him – are upset, no police action, no condemnation by the NZ Green Party.
Frankly for decades the UK has been a bastion of free speech only if that speech is approved by the establishment. The Police have always been willing to over-reach, and the UK Greens are falling for the all too common approach of free speech only for speech I like. Judged by any objective standards the Greens and the trans activists are hypocrites (as many of us are at some point or other).
I can stand people being hypocrites, not that I like it. I think laws designed to criminalise unwanted, maybe even undesirable speech, are dangerous and corrosive to a liberal democracy. They inevitably get used against speech those in power dislike, simply because that speech is disliked.

Does Polanski think it would be “proportionate” for the US police to arrest G F-M?
Contrast Linehan’s statements also with those of Mike Joy, an academic here in NZ who takes an unashamedly pro-environment stance.

If Zack Polanski shows up perving in the ladies room, skip the first options and go straight for punch him in the balls.
@2 ‘those in power’ – not that we need it to be, but could it be any more clearly spelled out whose interest ‘power’ is serving here?
