There would be no argument from anyone if she’d said “Everyone knows that the great majority of people getting pregnant, having babies, breastfeeding, etc. are women; but some are girls, and we as a society ought to be doing something to protect them from this.”
Instead, she stands on her soapbox to berate the vast majority of people for refusing to indulge the fantasies of the deluded and the malevolent.

Unless Solnit has recently changed her tune and rejected gender ideology (in which case she should have said “all” rather than “the great majority”), we have to assume she is still using the word “woman” in the Genderspeak sense (i.e. person who thinks or feels in certain ways best left unspecified, person with a certain “inner sense of self”, person in possession of an undetectable, undefinable, indescribable, inexplicable, inscrutable female soul or “essence” etc.), which, once again, is making a factual claim about what’s going on inside other people’s heads.
