Well yes but it’s not that simple.
One of these things is not like the other. “Brown” is of course not a good reason to vote against a candidate.
“Muslim” is not inert that way. Islam has content, to put it mildly. Islam treats women as inferior and subordinate and deserving of ferocious control and punishment. There are liberal Muslims who reject all that, but it’s not clear that Mothin Ali rejects any of it.
It’s not just automatically cool and multicultural and liberal in the broadest sense to treat Islam as just ordinary theism with a few quaint customs added on. Mo was not joking.
