Hacked

We’ve been hacked, so I’m going to have to take the server down for a while. I’ll get B&W up and running asap.

Okay, this should be kind of working now.

    Bastards!

But we’re back (obviously), thanks to Jerry S.

Seems to be. It ate one comment I just did, but left the second one.

There may be a few glitches. I’ve got to do TPM’s web site now!

    Awesome!

But: you weren’t hacked by mere mortals, OB. It was a SUPERNATURAL attack. :)

No, Brian, this was a mortal scam of the variety “Selling the Brooklyn Bridge”. The message was: ” This domain has just been registered for one of our customers!

Domain registration and webhosting at best prices.

    oneandone <http://www.oneandone.co.uk/>”

As Terry Pratchett reminds us, a god’s idea of a joke is Snakes and Ladders, with greased rungs.

“This domain has just been registered for one of our customers!”

That wasn’t the hack. That was just the index.html page of the rebuilt server.

  8. OB Avatar

Oh! I thought that was the hack, too.

Now I’m more confused than ever.

I’m the only person who’d have been able to see the hack. Basically, somebody found a back door into the server which enabled them to use it to send Spam email. They don’t want anybody to know they’re doing that, so they don’t leave clues. But, like God, I’m all-seeing, so I noticed. Unlike God, I can’t just zap them in vengeance.

Oh I see. I wondered why you said bastard spammers.

Good about being like God by the way. Too bad about no zappage, but good otherwise.

    Bah, spammers.

    I miss the RSS feed.

The RSS feed is on my list of things to fix. But I’ve got indexes to finish, books to write, book reviews to finish, book proposals to submit, other web sites to look after, so I’m a bit busy.
