Weekly Update

So – after a considerable wait, Google accepted the mailing list and I have – I think – sent out the first update since October. But I think people have to click a link in an email message from Google in order to be added to the new list, so the update probably went to no one at all. And I haven’t even received it myself, despite being thoroughly added, so maybe it doesn’t work at all. So if any of you are on the old list and get an update or alternatively don’t get an update, it would be helpful if you would let me know.

Update (on update – how confusing). No don’t bother yet. They’ve sent me a message saying I don’t have permish, despite having sent me an earlier message saying I did have permish. No doubt we’ll work it out before too long.

I’ve always been a site-checker, not a subscriber. Does this mean, however, that you have possibly solved your “Uncle Ophelia Needs You” problem in a more automated fashion than you were proposing? Congratulations if so.

If it works, yes; if not, no (not yet).

Josh did it all. Thanks, Josh!

It’s funny about subscribing. The people who emailed me about it seem to like the update itself, as an object, as something worth reading on its own. They tell me they pass it around and discuss it. So you see why I’ve been pining to get it going again!

I can see why that might be; I’ve always been subscription-wary, for fear I would end up with an inbox overflowing with reading backlog. This way I only go on when I have a few minutes. If I missed something, I can always check further down the list. I just don’t want a “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” situation on my hands. Fingers crossed for you (figuratively, with no superstitions involved…).

If I check B&W everyday, do I need to subscribe to the update? Do I miss anything?

I signed up a few minutes ago, as did 155 others as of this writing. I wonder if the group could be made more interactive rather than “notification only?” Just a thought… :)

Mike, nope! Checking every day should be plenty (and is a fine compliment to B&W, for which it thanks you).

The RSS feed makes the update less necessary anyway. But some people, as I mention, really like the update itself. Which is also a compliment to B&W, so I want to make them happy.

    Thanks for the clarification, Ophelia.

Oh – there’s a place where you can see that people have signed up? Fancy that! God am I clueless or what.

I’ve re-sent the update, but still haven’t received it, so something is still wrong.

Could me made interactive I guess twi, but then it’s interactive here, so d’you think another interactive place is needed? I have no objection, anyway, so I could look into it…

    It has 162 now.

How do you guys even know where it is?! I barely know, and Josh sent me a link! How are 162 people signing up when I haven’t been able to send anything? I’m lost in the fog.

I suppose this is interactive enough. Kinda makes me wish I had more to talk about! :)

Oh no I know how – because the list did get sent out, that’s right. I thought everyone would just throw it out because it looked like spam, but I guess not. Pretty impressive response, actually. Now if only the dratted update would send!

Just click on ‘about group’ and the stats are there.

    Ha!! It worked!

    Whee-ew.

At least 175 people have a present.

    Thank you Josh!

The ‘moderated’ box was checked, so it was waiting for me to moderate it and send it on its way. I concluded that I don’t need to moderate myself, so I checked the no moderation box instead.

I’m all weepy from looking at the list. A lot of old friends. sniff, sniff. You guys are so…so…

    Old? Friendly? :P

    Hooray! I’m glad it worked.
