Survivors watch Florida lawmakers vote down a bill to ban assault weapons

I wondered why Rob mentioned Dinesh D’Souza…then I saw that the latter was trending on Twitter, so I looked. Oh, that’s why.

The tweet he shared with that startling gloss:

D’Souza may never have lost any friends in a horrible manner, but that still doesn’t give him leave to be inhumane and mock students who just saw their friends gunned down at school.

Even the utterly amoral servants of white supremacist theocratic oligarchy at CPAC decided that D’Souza’s remarks were so out of bounds that they didn’t want to be associated with them:

And considering all the reprehensible low-life scum on the speakers list that they ARE willing to be associated with, that’s quite the rebuke to D’Souza. Of course, it’s all just PR. But the fact that the CPAC organizers are actually concerned enough about public relations to shun D’Souza for saying in public the sort of jokes they make in private shows some dim awareness of the coming culture shift that’s going to destroy them (or at least, their agenda and political influence).

Not coming soon enough for me. On bad days I don’t see this change coming at all. It’s hard being whipsawed between hope and despair.

I just stick with despair and channel it into rage and a desire for vengeance. I’m not sure that’s better but it’s not a seesaw.

I’m optimistic that what we’re seeing in this political era is the last spasm of oligarchic white supremacist patriarchal fear/rage at its rapidly accelerating loss of unearned privilege and power, which (naturally) feels to them like a vicious personal assault and denial of what they ought to have an unquestioned right to, but they can no longer hold on to…

At least, I feel some optimism.

    On alternating days.

Occasionally for minutes at a time!

I’m optimistic on behalf of the rest of the universe. I.e. I’m optimistic that, despite recent advances by Elon Musk etc., human stupidity and evil will never spread beyond the Earth (except in the form of radio waves. Let’s hope nobody’s out there listening). That’s a very good thing indeed. And who knows? If life on Earth could recover from asteroid impacts and cataclysmic volcanic eruptions in the past, it might even recover from the disaster known as Homo sapiens – in a hundred million years or so…

Wow! Now I’m getting all euphoric :D

Oh well, at risk of sounding a bit like a leftish reflection of DD, I don’t suppose we’re likely looking at future republican voters, even though they’re all in the melanin deficient demographic. A fact that maybe CPAC was more conscious of than DD, given his own lack of such a disadvantage.

It’s just a joke, guys! Can’t you lot take a joke comparing surviving a slaughter with being told to mow lawns?? D’Souza is just kidding around! Oh, such a wascawwy wabbit.

Don’t worry about Dinesh. He has jeebus’ ‘get out of moral responsibility free’ card in his shirt pocket. If a few voices on the Right issue a tut-tut at him today, they will erase the memory tomorrow.

Vile shit is right. Add another name to the long list of professional Christian apologists who turn out to be sociopaths.
