Their reputation as savvy dealmakers
Princess Ivanka and Prince Jared tried to get Planned Parenthood to stop providing abortion services in exchange for more $$$.
[Cecile] Richards, who is planning on stepping down as president [of PP] in 2018, reveals in her new book that the President’s daughter and son-in-law offered her an increase in federal funding for Planned Parenthood in exchange for its agreement to stop providing abortion services, according to People magazine.
“Jared and Ivanka were there for one reason: to deliver a political win,” Richards writes in “Make Trouble: Standing Up, Speaking Out, and Finding the Courage to Lead,” which was released Tuesday, People reported. “In their eyes, if they could stop Planned Parenthood from providing abortions, it would confirm their reputation as savvy dealmakers. It was surreal, essentially being asked to barter away women’s rights for more money.”
Yes but more money. Who doesn’t want more money? Planned Parenthood could buy a luxury penthouse on 5th Avenue, and who doesn’t want that? More money, I tell you!
Richards told CNN’s Erin Burnett in an interview Tuesday that she thinks Ivanka Trump isn’t being a champion for women in her role as senior adviser to her father, the President.
“If her job is to advocate for women, I don’t think she’s done a very good job,” Richards said. “And particularly when it comes to women’s rights, we need a strong advocate in this White House.”
That’s never going to be Princess Ivanka.
Imagine being so removed from normal understanding of medical establishments, so insulated from the necessity of them by your money, that you think that asking them to stop treating some aspect of human health in return for C4$$$h M0neyz Bl!ng Bl!ng is a reasonable idea. Can you picture a politician offering more funding for hospitals on the condition that they no longer treat diabetes, or no longer perform blood transfusions? I certainly can’t.
And of course there is the decidedly anti-female aspect of their request, so expected of the right, yet all the more remarkable that it comes from someone that is a) female, b) promoting her political platform as ‘female empowerment.’
Maybe they should offer VA more money if it refuses to prescribe Viagra? Oh, no, can’t do that…our men need their manliest manhood, which is, of course, to impregnate young women and make them carry the child.
They could offer the NAACP MORE MONEY to disavow Black Lives Matter. They could follow ex-sheriff David Clarke’s fine example.
Every time a hospital in the U.S. accepts some modest amount of funding from the Catholic Church in return for accepting their directives on performing abortion, euthanasia, birth control, etc., exactly this sort of thing happens. It’s medical business as usual. Planned Parenthood is to be credited for rejecting the bribe, but it’s an exception that way.
It’s simple projection. Again. Ivanka and Jared, like the rest of their family and so many other rightwingers, would take that dangled deal in an instant. They were probably flabbergasted when it didn’t work.
