Indonesia has responded with outrage after Saudi Arabia executed an Indonesian domestic worker who was convicted of killing her Saudi employer — even though an activist group says the maid had been defending herself from being raped.

The case highlights the tough position of many of the estimated 11 million foreign workers, from more than 100 nations, who reside in Saudi Arabia. An estimated 2.3 million of them work in households, often as maids.
And are treated like dirt.
Activists say migrant workers in Saudi Arabia can be exploited under its visa sponsorship system, known as kafala. The kafala system is used in several Persian Gulf states. The Saudi government has made some effort to reform the system, including setting up a website to inform foreigners of their rights, and some Saudis have called for it to be scrapped.
Tursilawati was sentenced to death in 2011 for the premeditated murder of her employer in the Saudi city of Thaif the year before. The mother of one had arrived in Saudi Arabia only nine months before the crime occurred. Migrant Care, a group that supports the rights of Indonesians working aboard, said she had been fearful of being raped by the man and acted in self-defense.

In the news feed this comes on the heels of the Khashoggi death, in which Saudi Arabia admits the Turkish journalist was murdered in the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul, and has invited the Turks to suck it up.The Turks are indignant over that, as are the Indonesians over Tuty Tursilawati. Saudi Arabia admits the Turkish journalist was murdered, but otherwise could not give a damn; probably because after it all blows over, they can help the oil consuming nations of the world choose if they want the Saudi tap to start closing or not.
Postures are adopted till something else grabs the front pages. The dogs bark, and the caravan moves on.

Trump and the Pubes have made a big show of othering Muslims. Take advantage of it, keep reminding your fellow citizens especially the fucking brain dead assholes in the hinterlands, that Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of 9/11, and that it is the most repressive Islamic fucking state outside of Islamic State.
At the same time remind what I hope is still the majority of Americans, that the Fundamentalist Cults (gotta use the right language) in your nation aren’t probably concerned all that much about some alleged would be rape victim being executed for killing a man in self defence. In many American states the outcome could easily be the same. Do you think a female servant of a billionaire in Texas would fair any better in similar circumstances?
