Today, Governor Jay Inslee declared a drought emergency that now expands across nearly half of Washington, with snow pack under 50 percent of normal across highlighted areas.
Hotter, drier conditions lead to more wildfires. This drought is a reminder that we expect 2019 will be a tough fire season. We are preparing as best we can to meet this challenge, but ask you to take caution and be vigilant when doing activities that may spark fires.
Fires in all directions, it will be.

That’s a very narrow avenue of escape north of Oak Harbour. 5, 10 miles wide at most. And on water, too.
More environmental woes. The concrete dome covering 73,000 cubic metres of radioactive soil which was buried on the Marshall Island’s Runit Islands – utilising the crater from a 1958 nuclear test, no less – is starting to crack, and is possibly only one severe storm surge from breaking up and releasing its toxic waste.
