The students are revolting, indeed.
Funny how she can’t know about poverty because she’s white (being one means you can never be the other? I always thought poverty didn’t care what colour you were, it would let you join and become a full member, no questions asked. And would not the instructor’s own perspective, their “lived experience,” if you will, add more information to a discussion? But disqualified Because White Woman.), but is being mobbed and demonized for saying that no male can ever be female, which somehow constitutes hate speech.
Thinking of Josh’s “Anti-boundaries activism” guest post, having given in to these demands of trans activists to demonize and harass someone deemed an Enemy, what’s the next unreasonable demand that will be extracted from these woke “allies?”
This in not what academia needs in light of rising tuition, growing college debt and the increasing perception that a degree just isn’t worth the time, money or effort anymore. Doesn’t help there are so many ‘junk degrees’ available from dubious institutions.
But they’re kind of in a trap, with many colleges seeing enrollment drops and some even closing, they’re desperate to get and keep students at any cost, even if that means they allow them to cannibalize each other and their faculty (figuratively speaking).
And this brave new world of Social Media that students can’t pull their faces and fingers out of long enough to navigate the hallways isn’t helping. Whether or not it’s being stoked by politically motivated trolls, we’ve been transformed into a culture of rage and indignation.
What really bugs me is that there are real serious issues involving the real serious health of real people and our only livable planet that can’t be addressed by these young minds when they’re busy chasing the ‘actual violence’ done by ‘transphobes’. Maybe those issues are too tough for them, so they’re going after what they think are easy targets?

From their item 10, “This bitch needs to die”. This is somehow OK, but misgendering is “literal violence”.
Their item 12, referring to “stank pussy ass white bitch”: ‘Evidently it’s fine to “reduce women to their genitals” when you need to insult a woman you disagree with.’ Yes, well put.
What an awful piling-on. Find a person low in the hierarchy, and demolish that person so everyone else jettisons ideas about speaking out. Disgusting.
And again it is made obvious that to TRAs, lived experience of women is worthless unless that woman is a man.
I thought it was bad when we had a speaker last year who claimed you could not claim poverty if you had a roof over your head, even if said roof was leaking and threatening to fall down on your head. This speaker was white, so did not go the route of “can’t know poverty if you’re white”.
I am going to say this, and if anyone chooses to be an ass about it, they can got elsewhere, because I’m not listening:
I am white. I am a white woman. I was raised in squalor, filth, and poverty. Poverty is not about color, it’s about the ability to pay your bills, afford food, and have a place to live that is fit to live in.
As for transphobia? I do talk in my biology class about how sex is determined biologically. So far, none of my trans students have challenged me or gone to the boss. Of course, all my trans students so far have been FTM, so perhaps not with the same sense of entitlement.
Then there’s this bullshit article from Scientific American about how science that disagrees with trans ideology is wrong.

4thWaveNow linked to the letter of demands, and I linked to it here too, so more people can see it firsthand. It’s signed by 21 students and grads of UCSB Feminist Studies, where Laura Tanner is listed as a grad student working on a dissertation.
I don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said. I’ll just highlight this demand:
That calls for UCSB to fire Tanner, on the basis that she supposedly espoused beliefs that are “openly racist, anti-sex work and transphobic.”
I wonder if Tanner has legal options here, e.g. if she could sue the authors for defamation (i.e. if the letter can be read as making claims about Tanner that can be proven untrue). One of Tanner’s “transphobic” Tweets was that males cannot become females. Of course Tanner was correct (on that fact), but I don’t know if the claim of transphobia is a claim of fact (defamation) or opinion (not defamation). I don’t know, I just hope she has some legal options.
Sackbut, I’m reminded of this from Scientific American castigating Bill Nye for being a guest of the head of NASA at the State of the Union speech back in January, 2018. Guilt by association, how does it work?

It’s certainly deployed as a “fact” by those using it. I wonder how many TRA “allies” have ever really bothered to unpack exactly what the “hateful” , “transphobic” statements are, and how many are just nodding along and running for torches and pitchforks on others’ say so. Given that simple statements of fact like “men are not women,” “lesbians don’t have penises,” “woman=adult human female,” and “lesbian=female homosexual,” I wonder if any would be surprised that this is what they are getting frothing mad about. (I’m frankly surprised by the post with trans colours that actuall spells out the monstrous “NO (Mars symbol =MALE) CAN EVER BE (Venus symbol=FEMALE). That’s more exposure to the actual ideas of GC feminists than TRAs usually allow to see the light of day.)
Just as men will often willingly confess to actions that are legally sexual assault or rape so long they’re about them asked in a way that doesn’t openly use those terms, I wonder how many of the woke hangers on could be made to assent to any of those statements judged transphobic if they were asked in terms that were slightly more subtle, in conditions where tribal loyalty and the need for woke watchfulness were not obviously in play. Same for any “anti sex-work” statements. If enough useful idiots could be peak trans-ed and peeled away from the movement, it would lose some strength and support, though we are fighting against the passionate, ironclad conviction of the young that they are right and know more than anyone who isn’t them. Still, a little corrosion can do wonders against iron…
And those that are older that want to be seen as being cool and hip, like the teachers who used to hang around the malt shop saying “cool” and “groovy” so the kids would think they were “with it”. (See one PZ Myers for a clear example of this phenomenon).
I checked “eitan” (“Sephardic prince”)’s Twitter feed yesterday (after I alerted O to this story.)
I couldn’t take a screen shot, sorry, but he had a tweet with a GIF of SpongeBob characters looking interested and saying something lime, “This is what we came for!”
The caption was something like, “When she finally stops tweeting about her mental health and posts a titty pic.”
Mind you, this is an adolescent boy who probably considers himself “woke.”
Today, he’s making fun of Linehan for being Irish and “ugly.”
WHen is a TRA mob going to show up in front of a fundamentalist church? When are they going to protest violence against trans-women in the red-light districts where they are murdered in real life?
