Hey, remember when liberals pinned their hopes on Ivanka Trump?
No, neither do I.
Maggie Haberman says they did though.
Three years after liberals pinned their hopes on her as a bridge within the Trump White House, Ivanka Trump has registered as a Republican, defends her father over impeachment and goes on Hannity’s show. https://t.co/g8ikc8tGo0
Something I didn't realize before I read Andrea Bernstein's "American Oligarchs" is that Ivanka Trump donated $130k to Republicans in 2012 and said she didn't want to see Obama reelected. https://t.co/nxyXep83YH

Not shocked that the @nytimes would run this story on Ivanka without mentioning her fraud settlement. I wonder who the correspondents were… oh. https://t.co/w3WQaYIrfX
Maggie Haberman gets some insider dirt, but I’m not sure it’s worth the ethical compromises she appears to make to get it. She’s been transparent in carrying water for Jared and Ivanka throughout the last four years. If “liberals” really do suffer from the delusion that Ivanka was One of Them — and I doubt it — it’s because Maggie Haberman snowed them into believing it.
I’m not sure how she or her editor determine that the occasional “hot” tidbit about whether Steven Miller is at odds with Mick Mulvaney, and that “sources close to Jared and Ivanka” say that they’re worried the president is getting bad advice, is really worth allowing the “Paper of Record” to be used as a mouthpiece for Princess and her husband.
The only people I saw pinning any hopes on Ivanka or Jared were people well to the right of political centre, except maybe in America, where some of them might have been only slightly to the right of a political centre that makes Ghengis Khan look like a sensitive sharing kind of guy.
I recall hearing at the time the occasional unevidenced report opining about Ivanka being a “moderating” influence on her father. HAHAHA! Good one, eh?
So she’s angry about her father’s impeachment, but not the least bit bothered by the fact that he has been cheating the country, putting children in cages, endangering lives by decimating the CDC, and acting like a total dictator? Good to know she has her priorities straight.
I remember the media speculating that she might become a moderating force. I dunno, perhaps wild media speculation to fill column inches is the same thing these days as “people believed”.

The opening line of Haberman’s tweet is pure comedy, conveying a cluelessness worthy even of Basil Fawlty. In a way, I admire it.

There may have been such a hope in the sense of grasping at anything. I’m not sure there was an expectation that Ivanka would moderate her father.
