I think it more likely that Jenner’s ‘platform of acceptance’ has more to do with his own fame and that of the Jenner and Kardashian brood. Has Jenner ever acknowledged any benefit he gained through the ‘work/activism/sacrifice of trans people’ or is Jamil just making shit up to stoke the flames?
If all the work, etc. of trans people has been so effective then how is it that that acceptance appears to be reserved for only a few, already famous trans people? Talk about confused messages; here’s Jamil berating Jenner for turning his back on those who have won a platform of trans acceptance – in a shitstorm about trans people not being accepted. Make your bloody mind up, Jamil.

Because we accept that men compete with each other despite physical differences, and women compete with each other despite physical differences, we must also accept that transwomen compete with women despite physical differences. The argument is that it’s just another way that women have physical differences.
As usual, the argument only works if you accept the axiom ‘trans women are women’. The more I hear of TRA arguments the more I’m amazed at just how much of it hinges on that one initial assertion. That’s why they repeat it so much.
When your whole argument hangs on redefining a word, there’s a lot of us who just don’t find that very persuasive. You can say X is Y all you want but, even if everyone agree to call X a Y from now on, it doesn’t change anything about the reality of X or Y.
Have you been reading it in the Original ALL CAPS, consisting of at least seven repetitions? It’s important that you see the argument, in its True Incarnation. Only then can you truly understand the Power and Glory of it, in all its Doubt-quenching, Stunning Bravery. Any other version is a pale, unconvincing substitute.

Oh and look at that, this is coming from Jameela Jamil, the woman who was criticised for being being a straight judge on a dance show associated with gay people… until she suddenly announced that she was queer. The criticism against her was stupid in the first place, but her response shows she accepts it and now it strikes me that she has a professional stake in maintaining this abysmal approach.
I could not remember the specific thing that prompted her queer turn, and so I had to check her wiki page to find out. It was …fascinating.
Whatever I think of Jenner, he was an elite athlete in real life. He just might have a more informed opinion than Rachel…
