Jurors ordered conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Wednesday to pay nearly $1 billion to Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims’ relatives and an FBI agent, who said he turned their loss and trauma into years of torment by promoting the lie that the rampage was a hoax.
The $956 million verdict is the second big judgment against the Infowars host for spreading the myth that the massacre never happened, and that the grieving families seen in news coverage were actors hired as part of a plot to take away people’s guns.
The verdict came in a defamation lawsuit filed by the relatives of five children and three educators killed in the 2012 shooting, plus an FBI agent who was among the first responders.
Jones wasn’t in the courtroom, he was too busy doing Infowars.
“All made up. Hilarious,” he said. “So this is what a show trial looks like. I mean, this is the left completely out of control.”
The left? Really? They’re going with that? They really want to say it’s the left that doesn’t torture the parents of murdered children by telling lies about them on a popular amateur talk show? They really want to own that level of brutality and sadism?
Yes, it’s the left, because the left are at fault for everything, and we’re all woke and shit, too, and hate America being armed because then we can’t take over, even though we control everything now especially the elections.
I wonder how much he’ll pay out, really, once it’s all said and done. I hope he doesn’t have enough left over for a used rusty trailer in Balch Springs, Texas.
He also, on air during the reading of the verdict, asked listeners to send him money which he promised would not go to the plaintiffs ‘because he had filed for bankruptcy’. I suspect a lot of lawyers ears (and at least one bankruptcy judge’s) started twitching at that point.

The antonym of ‘woke’ has to be ‘asleep.’ What the Right arguably wants is a population of sleepwalkers, obedient to every suggestion coming out of the ads on TV and elsewhere, and never questioning anything: like the utterences of a prime commandant of the Unwoke, lfor example say, er, Donald Trump.

@Omar – I don’t actually know anyone who calls themselves woke, it’s just a shorter way to say “Politically Correct,” which, also no one called themselves when that was the term du jour. I think it’s useful as a propaganda term that covers things which are legitimately concerns associated with the left to center-left by the right, but tars them as being the same sort of insincere concern and/or wacky demands associated leftwards such as choosing and enforcing pronouns.
Mike, I think there are a lot of people that call themselves woke. I see it and hear it, especially in my theater friends. Also a lot of my LGB friends consider themselves woke, and will use that term.
I must travel in the wrong circles. I finished my degree off-campus, so perhaps that insulated me from the crap.
Woke is definitely a term people use about themselves, and the mindset it describes is every bit as anti-liberal as anything coming from the right.
“Woke” was originally a black American term meaning “aware of (particularly racial) injustice,” but now it refers to a particular strain of “social justice” ideology that is drenched in critical theory. And the people opposing Wokeness are not all right-wingers, or even conservatives.

also – the damages jones caused appeared after the deaths – even if they gained from them, his organization didn’t cause the deaths
so where is the logic in the “organization” of an after the fact lunatic (that has virtually zero significant assets and an easy out through “bankruptcy”) is ordered to pay billions in damages . . . while the highest damage payment for the people who actually structured and orchestrated the “2008” fiasco (who each have several orders of magnitudes more cash-o -hand thanks to the debt schemes they constructed and actively enacted) topped out at 80 million . . .
