Alito put slugs in Biden’s sandwich

This doesn’t seem very judicialish. It doesn’t even seem moderately adult.

An upside-down American flag – a symbol used by some supporters of former President Donald Trump who challenged the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s 2020 victory – hung outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito after the election, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Well why didn’t he just go on Fox News and show us his ass on camera? If you’re gonna go, go big.

The revelation is almost certain to prompt calls for Alito, a member of the court’s conservative wing, to recuse himself from several high-profile cases pending before the court this year involving the election and subsequent attack on the US Capitol, including the blockbuster question of whether Trump may claim immunity from federal election subversion charges.

Why? Because justices are supposed to be impartial. I know that’s a fiction, and became a whole lot more fictitious under Trump’s reign of barforama, but still.

The upside-down flag became a symbol of the “Stop the Steal” movement in the weeks and months following the election, in which Trump’s supporters falsely claimed that Biden’s win was illegitimate due to widespread fraud. The inverted flag was widely seen during the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

It’s a symbol not just of Trumpism but of violent sedition and massive contempt for the law.

Because they aren’t quite honest enough to fly the flag of ole Dixie, I suppose?

Surely it would have made more sense to fly a downside up confederate flag. It could have been just like all those other Qanon and Cooker symbols – only visible to initiates with access to the truth “they” want to hide.

Both Alito & Thomas should be recused from the ‘immunity’ case – though whether that is possible, I don’t know. They are certainly not going to recuse themselves.

It’s his wife’s fault, doncha know?

“I had no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag,” Justice Alito said in an emailed statement to The Times. “It was briefly placed by Mrs. Alito in response to a neighbor’s use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs.”

I remember when the upside down flag was being used by protestors on the left, to the horror and disgust of those on the right. Gets hard to keep the parties straight when they keep changing their symbolism!

I prefer to reserve judgement on that until the verdicts are in from Stormy Daniels and Melania. But meanwhile, other interested parties may consider flying the flag with its top and bottom side to the mast, and in both upside down and right way up versions of each. Could finish up as an eight-sided civil war, with Jefferson Davises and Abe Lincolns galore. But Trump has an awful long way to go before he reaches the Lincoln level. He would most likely just throw a tantrum and chuck all his toys out of the play-pen.

Better still, each of them could fold a flag vertically to form a square, then diagonally to form a triangle; sit in the centre with the long edge behind, draw the bottom point up between the legs and the top corners around the waist and secure with a large safety pin. Then they can wear their flags as diapers like the overgrown babies they appear to be.

Flying a state flag or ensign upside down on a ship is an international signal of distress, a visual Mayday call. This has been recognised for centuries.

Maybe Mrs Alito privately thinks the United States is shipwrecked, in desperate need of rescue? Or wants to abandon ship herself?
