So far beneath

Now look here, this won’t do at all, threatening people we don’t like with death by violence.

Oh rilly? say a great many people who remember when Kirsten Oswald MP beamed joyously in front of placards threatening death by violence.

I remember her excuse at the time was that she didn’t realize that the guy was holding that sign up behind her, which was possibly the stupidest excuse ever recorded. I mean, she has working eyes and ears. She saw and heard what people were doing and saying, and she was taking part.

I find it very plausible that she didn’t realize that specific sign was there, but I’m sure there were at least half a dozen others in a similar vein nearby; she would’ve noticed at least one of them.

Yeah, she might have seen them but not have taken notice of them as problematic or threatening. It is similar to the “eat the rich” or “bring back the guillotines” casually murderous memes and comments I see often; if the target group is reviled, these threats of violence or death can appear to be just another simple criticism. “Death to TERFs” and “No TERFs on our turf” are synonymous. Unless, of course, you are sensible and can distinguish death threats from other things.
