Guest post: Research request

Mike Bendzela asks:

I’m toying with a semi-autobiographical piece that I would like to publish at 3 Quarks Daily. It’s a “what-if” look at a kinda-effeminate boy (me) who grew up in the 1960s and what would happen if he were transplanted into the present with its trans mania: Would he be allowed to grow up to be a normal gay male adult?

I suspect many of these young “trans girls” are effeminate gay boys so full of internalized homophobia that they would do anything (with the support of parents and churches, of course) to avoid the dreaded fate of growing up to be gay.

I’m wondering if there are any clear, citable instances of young gay boys who were either transed or partially transed much to their regret and who learned late (perhaps too late) that they are simply normal gay boys?? These would give my speculative autobiography more authority, I think.

Thanks!

I’m literally listening to Stephanie Winn’s podcast interview right now with this guy:

I’ve heard probably a dozen examples of this phenomenon, check out Gender a Wider Lens among others.

Mike, I don’t know. I suspect there are a lot of us females who feel the same way at times. ;-)

ikn, Sincere thanks for the levity!

What I’m discovering is so appalling that I fear trivializing the subject by writing about it.

@2 the impression I get from hearing many of these men is more/also ‘I wanted men (specifically straight men) to find me attractive, and wanted to have socially acceptable sexual relationships with men.’

    Kai Shappley.

Here’s an article by the mother: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/parenting/a43702/transgender-child-kimberly-shappley/

In other evidence given to a state legislature, I think, she says she “beat, really beat” Kai to get him to stop. In the above article she says “spankings”.

So is Kai trans or an incipient gay male? Only puberty will tell. If Kai has “socially transitioned,” I wonder if physical interventions aren’t soon to follow.

Then too, there’s the whole class of unacceptably ‘butch deficient’ straight men, like me. Plus the ‘butch’ straight women.

@Mike, Kai is presently approximately 14, so I expect that he’s already on blockers, potentially soon to start cross sex hormones. Currently portrayed as trans, which given how feminine he is and how conservative his family is, might be the only option that made sense to him or the family would allow. According to news articles, his family moved from Texas to Connecticut over the matter of gender affirming care, so I expect he’s receiving it.
