A police force is placing biological men in women’s cells despite the Supreme Court ruling that transgender women are not legally women.
Staffordshire Police says its custody policy means “detainees may be placed in accommodation consistent with their gender identity”, The Telegraph can reveal.
That means biological men who identify as transgender women can be placed in women’s-only custody cells.
Which is both unsafe and unfair for women.
The force introduced the rules in the wake of last April’s Supreme Court ruling that sex in equality law refers to biological sex, which has been widely interpreted as meaning that biological men cannot use female single-sex facilities.
But…”sex refers to biological sex” should lead to not housing men with women. Not, you see. Not doing it, but not doing it. Did no one explain?
Its revised policies commit to allowing a person to self-identify their chosen gender.
But you were supposed to revise your stupid policies in the other direction, you fucking fools.
Cathy Larkman, a director of the Women’s Rights Network and a retired police superintendent, said: “These policies do not comply with the Supreme Court judgment, and they indicate a level of ignorance with the law and a disregard for the rights of women that is deeply concerning.”
Not to mention a level of just plain stupid.
Staff are expected to “uphold inclusive language” and will be given training on “respectful” pronoun use.
Oh shut up. It’s not “inclusive” to call men women. It’s an insult and a threat to women; not inclusive.
When asked to clarify whether this meant that they would be therefore searched by a female officer, the force said that a GRC did not “automatically” determine search policy.
The policy sets out that trans people can request to be “searched by someone of their lived gender” as long as the detainee and officers agree.
There’s no such thing as “lived gender”. Silly trans jargon is just silly trans jargon; institutions like the police should have no truck with it.
Terence Stock, a former member of the force’s Independent Advisory Group, who obtained the policies using FOI laws, said: “Clinging to outdated policies is a clear failure of the core moral duty of policing.
“It is unforgivable that Staffordshire Police still fails to reflect fully the For Women Scotland Supreme Court judgment and the clear same-sex requirement in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
“Intimate searches are among the most intrusive powers imaginable, and disproportionately affect women with histories of trauma and sexual violence. Police forces must follow the law, protect those in custody, and treat sex as the biological reality it is – not continue to make concessions that put women at risk.”
How many more times do they need to be told?
