A federal judge ruled Monday that the Department of Justice’s firing of New York federal prosecutor Maurene Comey last year was unlawful.
Judge Jesse Furman ordered that Comey, who is the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, be retroactively reinstated to her job as an assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of New York. The judge also ordered that she receive back pay in his ruling in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
Maurene Comey, who had been involved with prosecutions of Jeffrey Epstein, his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, was fired in July 2025. She later sued the Department of Justice, challenging its right to terminate her.
Her father has long been a target of criticism from President Donald Trump.
Comey has long been a target of persecution from Trump. Don’t sugarcoat it.
