The NY Times is doing live reporting on the backlash against Trump’s attempt to stifle the news media.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico on Monday sued the Trump administration for barring them from the White House grounds, saying it was a violation of their First Amendment rights to cover the president.
The five networks that have suspended their pool coverage of President Trump — ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC — just issued a joint statement: “The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.”
Interesting to see that Fox has some principles.
Bryan Boughton, the Washington bureau chief at Fox News and the acting chair of the television pool consortium, wrote in a note to pool members on Monday that the decision to halt TV pool coverage “follows the White House’s position preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties.”
I’m guessing Trump is amazed and furious that Fox is not with him on this one.
