Oh, well, wearing a dress. He must be a woman, right?

With apologies to Blackadder 2, …at which point Sir Thomas More pointed out that a late transwoman was a late man… A very perceptive man, Sir Thomas.

I wonder if he uses the head tilt when he’s looking through his scope and aiming at children?

BBC World Service reported today that the shooter was an 18 year old woman, with no commentary or qualification to suggest that any of those words did not mean what they mean. I was surprised: mass shootings are mostly done by men. It did not occur to me that the BBC was straight-up lying.

god that is so enraging.

Last night I was following this story online. At first the suspect was described as a “female in a brown dress.”
Later there was an update in the form of a brief video. That was when they announced that people had been found dead at the suspect’s residence. In that update, the RCMP spokesman referred only to “the shooter” and very obviously avoided using any pronouns.
That’s when I knew.

Australia’s ABC reported the shooter as a woman (leading me to guess we were dealing with a Robin Westman or an Audrey Hale), and has added to the headline crawl that Canadian police have identified the shooter, but not said who.
I had a look at the news website and found that it does say if you read beyond the initial paragraphs, but I don’t know what the statistics are on people reading entire articles.
An interesting inclusion is the number for MensLine, which is a crisis hotline for violent men, along with the usual suicide crisis hotlines, and LGBTIQ+ crisis lines.
If you only watched the news and didn’t look up the article, you wouldn’t know that this “woman” was a man.

Yeah it’s pretty much Law Number One in journalism that you get all the important facts out IN THE LEDE because the farther down it is the less likely it is to be read. Hiding the sex of the perp until the 17th paragraph is deliberate deception. It’s malpractice, and its goal is to pin male crimes on women. It’s just utterly disgusting and dishonest and a violation of the principles of reporting.
