A pretty substantial confession

Lordy. I had to go do other things for a few hours and in that small space of time Trump only went and admitted obstruction of justice.

He fired him for lying to the FBI…and then tried to pressure Comey into letting him off. Obstruction. The lawyers are lining up to say so.

But there’s nothing so big that Republicans can’t ignore it until the Orange Nightmare has signed their fucking tax bill. Then they will be shocked and dismayed after he’s done their dirty work. But not until.

If Trump wants to shoot someone on Time Square, he’d better do it quickly, while he can still get away with it.

We impeached Clinton (ostensibly) for lying. But somehow, Trump (why Trump, of all people!) is impervious to everything.

We impeached Clinton for having sex; the lying was merely the legal fiction. Having sex (if you’re a Democrat) is the worst thing you can do.

Mind you, I am not defending Clinton; I just think it’s laughable that real crooks can lie and cheat and steal the fortune (both human and capital) of the entire nation, and the party yawns, while focusing obsessively on the sexual antics of a member of the opposite party.

And they all defend the reprehensible behavior of conservatives who behave inappropriately with women, while pointing fingers and demanding resignations from Democrats (which, to be fair, many Democrats are also doing, because we do give a damn about the safety of the women who work in all these places and are being abused. Those who defend someone just because they are a Democrat are not worth my vote).

That’s why I said “ostensibly.” The official line was that he was impeached for lying under oath.

Will lying be a good enough pretext this time around?

The number of Republicans who looked at Trump with horror and disgust during the Republican primary campaign who fell into line once he became “their” candidate does show how malleable, negotiable and fluid their “values” are. These moral invertebrates will rediscover their backbones once it’s expedient and will quickly recall their original opposition to Trump, conveniently forgetting the period of time during which they obsequiously supported “their President,” and do so secure in the knowledge that many of their supporters will continue to vote for them simply because their names are followed by (R).
