Oh no you don’t

Another religious maniac heard from:

Leaders must once again acknowledge the importance of submission to God in a free society.

If “leaders” must acknowledge the importance of submission to God then we’re not talking about a free society, are we. The mandate is not free, the “acknowledgement” of a lie is not free, the citation of a non-existent entity is not free, and above all the demand for submission to a god is the very opposite of freedom. It’s the opposite of freedom in its arbitrary substitution of fictions for reality, in its assumption of shared beliefs when no such assumption is warranted or fair, and in its valorization of submission, of all things.

A free society spits on the whole idea of submission.

He means submission to Christ. And specifically, his theocratic version of Christ. By free society he means the state now decides if we have to slit our son’s throats at the alter. Make America Medieval Again.

The worst part is that this god-bothering nitwit failed to notice how the quote from Webster’s emphasis on individual responsibility, dignity, and equality directly opposes his message of SUBMISSION. What Webster is saying about the role of the Bible in public life is completely antithetical to Rapert’s moronic ideology, which would have us subordinate our individual responsibility, our fundamental equality, and our dignity as self-directing agents to dogmatic assertions of religious authority rather than understanding faith and morality for ourselves. Reading comprehension is apparently not a part of Sen. Jason Rapert’s skill set, which I think is a rather bad thing for a legislator, or for any other functioning independent adult human.

Same idea, different god. There are those who would say it’s the “same” god, but they are two different characters from two different sets of stories. Three, actually, if one splits the Jewish stories from the Christian ones (which, I’m sure, most Jews would thank you to do).

If we’re going to submit anyway, let’s submit to Lilith. She sounds a lot more fun.
