Needed some good news! That’s great. And it doesn’t hurt that it pokes Saudi Arabia in the eye, either.
Not so fast!
Australia has said it would consider it. That’s a long way short of actually taking her.
Of course, I hope this government does take her, for obvious humanitarian reasons; but also because critics of our beleaguered and untrustworthy Prime Minister Morrison will face questions about why the refugees on Manus and Nauru islands who have endured years of imprisonment are not getting the same consideration. Their mistreatment is a scandal and disgrace to Australia.
I know. But it’s still great news that the UN says she should be.
