Updating to add: I had to hit the Google to see if I was wrong to think Trump wasn’t supposed to be showing several inches of waistcoat below his jacket. GQ says nope I wasn’t wrong:
You will need a low cut, white evening waistcoat (so the shirt is visible) and the bottom of the waistcoat shouldn’t stick out under the jacket. This is a subtle point, but it is worth trying to adhere to since it helps keeps the balance of the suit.
So he didn’t mess that up by just a little bit.

Chigau, I’m sure E II R had a couple of really good burns selected and then thought ‘what the hell I’ll wear the usual, the ignoramus won’t even notice’.
She just burned him in her speech by praising the UN and NATO. I’m no fan of the monarchy, but I will admit that our Liz is a black belt in the art of the subtle “up yours” (qv the EU hat she wore to open parliament).
Let’s try to be adults here for a moment, shall we? The important thing is not his clothing, but the fact that he looks fucking miserable.
I wonder what he would have thought if the state dinner had consisted of piles of boxed Wimpy burgers, newspaper-wrapped fish and chips, baked beans, mushy peas, takeaway curry, and tinned kippers.

He seems to be very uncomfortable around people with genuine class, probably because he’s aware that it’s an attribute he’ll never attain.
Credit is due to whoever sewed the buttons on that waistcoat; that’s some industrial-strength needlework.
Also, I’d wager that he’ll go home thinking the British royals are in poverty. Can’t even afford new furniture.
Melania Trump looks a lot more relaxed and very pretty as well. Also a suitable dress.
