Someone drove by and yelled “what the fuck”

Lucky lucky Detroit.

When nonbinary trans artist Jonah Welch went to check out their gorgeous new billboard in Detroit, someone drove by and yelled “what the fuck” at them.

“This is exactly why I made this billboard,” they told BuzzFeed News.

The billboard sits at 7 Mile and Kempa Street and proclaims, “Trans people are sacred.”

Well that’s modest.

Welch said their work delves into abstract surrealism and often goes to a place where trans identities and magic and mysticism meet. The billboard isn’t the first iteration of “trans is sacred,” but it’s definitely the largest.

The phrase itself is something they heard from a friend years ago that always stuck with them. It made them feel like their trans identity wasn’t just okay, but a gift.

And in fact sacred.

This is good, because it’s not as if trans ideology is already riddled with narcissism and grandiosity.

See the pretty phallus collection. Very sacred.

Such as signing your billboard with your name printed in big letters on the focal point?

Another rare “nonbinary trans” spotting! The sacredest of all the identities!

    Well, yes, since you ask.

That’s not how to spell ‘scared’.

I had to look up what the transition was (to an aging hippie from the 1970s was my first guess). In case anyone else is curious:

Jonah is a femme FtM trans person who identifies primarily as genderqueer.

Sure, go from female to male then be femme…with a beard. Why not?

It’s all about the word count, see. Being a femme FtM trans person lets you burn up a few more seconds of other people’s attention than being something a little less adjectival.

And as soon as someone comes out with the inevitable reply of “Aren’t all people sacred?” they get to lump that response in with the “All lives matter” response that was an attempt at deflecting and defusing BLM.

Also has our nonbinary artist just beamed in or are they (or rather They, sacred, you know!) just beaming out? It certainly looks to me that there are incipient (or residual) transporter precursor (or echo) optical phenomena in evidence. Or maybe a unicorn is going to come out from behind the trees. I can’t decide which.

It’s slightly more subtle than sitting at the end of a rainbow, though no less twee.

    That’s a lot of dildos.
