Nothing very unusual

The news outlets are reporting it now. CNN:

Fabio Wajngarten, the press secretary for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, two sources have told CNN. Bolsonaro’s health is being monitored.

It comes just days after Wajngarten met US President Donald Trump in Florida.

Bolsonaro’s aide posted an image of himself standing with Trump and US Vice President Mike Pence at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend.

Trump is calm.

Trump said he was aware of the aide’s diagnosis during remarks in the Oval Office on Thursday.

“We did nothing very unusual, we sat next to each other for a period of time,” he added, referring to Bolsonaro.

Well, yes, and that’s one way the virus can spread. It doesn’t require doing anything very unusual.

As I recall, the POTUS and Vice-POTUS are not supposed to travel on the same plane together, lest it crash and the entire collective population of the US be left in the condition of a headless chook, without a Leader. Both Trump and Pence could turn out in a short while to be Corona-virus positive; which would cramp their styles somewhat. Particularly for President Pussygrabber

There would also be a ~2% or so chance.in each case of either one entering Death’s dark slammer, though far less for both of them if both were positive. (~2% of 2% by my calculations.)

But the Coronavirus is no respecter of persons, and does not stand on ceremony.

But wait. This guy is smiling. He looks healthy. He’s probably had flu shot, a really solid one, too. He likes Trump. He couldn’t possiblybe sick.

Maybe Trump thinks he had to be fucking the guy to get it. On the other hand, Trump’s having fucked the country has increased America’s risk exponentially.

Donnie, you’re doing a heck of a job.

    Looks like a twofer.

    President Pelosi….?

    Holms,

I would recommend in your case reading 'I have coronavirus and I'll be fine. Please stop the hysteria' by Tom Hywood.

    https://www.theage.com.au/national/i-have-coronavirus-and-i-ll-be-fine-please-stop-the-hysteria-20200312-p549bf.html

and the comment on it by 'Concerned Voter', who appears to have medical knowledge.

This is a singularly unhelpful article. [Translation: it’s bullshit. – Omar.]

Firstly – it is factually incorrect.

Around 20% infected are sick enough to require hospitalisation and 26% of those require ICU (5% of the total).

97% of those needing mechanical ventilation in this study from China – died.

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30566-3/fulltext

Secondly – the reason to be concerned (note – not panicked or fearful) and take it seriously (note – this is not hysteria) – is not about our INDIVIDUAL risks – but the fact that as it is a new and highly contagious virus – without a vaccine or treatment – and unless we curtail it – very large numbers of people will get sick over a short time frame and overwhelm our hospital system.

The measures that we need to implement (like social distancing) – seem radical but for them to work – they need to be implemented NOW.

    Food for thought..?

“We did nothing very unusual, we sat next to each other for a period of time,” he added, referring to Bolsonaro.

“In fact, it was a perfect sitting. It went very well. Beautifully. It was a perfect, beautiful sitting. Nothing unusual, because I do that all the time. People are very surprised at how well I sit like that. You can’t infect me for the PERFECT way I sat.”

Which is why I keep wanting to call my boss and say “Why are we still open? We should be implementing the best procedures, like your banner on your website claims you are doing.”

Sastra – you have a new future as a Trump impersonator. Get a clownsuit, and you’re ready to go.

Pall Thordarson is a professor of chemistry at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. His piece below on COVID-19 and the role of soap in fighting it is very good. Highly recommended.

Omar I’m not sure why you directed me to that article and comment. I am not opposed to the measures recommended by any health organisation, my comment #3 was simply a hope that Trump has a bad time. Unkind, certainly.

    Holms @#9:

    You are forgiven, my son.

Remember, Trump is doing his best. And that of course, is the problem.
