Future jaunt

Interesting

The murk surrounding Donald Trump’s likely whereabouts on his last day as president has thickened considerably with news that an official plane he has used in the past is due to fly to Scotland the day before Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Scotland’s Sunday Post has reported that Prestwick airport, near Trump’s Turnberry golf course resort, has been told to expect a US military Boeing 757 that has occasionally been used by Trump, on 19 January.

He’s more than stupid enough to think he’ll be able to order up the plane again a few days or weeks later. He’s also more than stupid enough to think rules about travel during the pandemic don’t apply to him.

To me the stupidity is travelling to north-east Scotland in January, with minimal daylight and maximum chill.

I wonder if he’s planning to return.

I can’t imagine he’ll get a neighborly welcome there, but perhaps it’s just the first leg in his move to Saudi Arabia.

He has to know he’s in line for indictment in multiple states (though I’m sure his fevered little brain regards this as just part of the massive conspiracy against him), and is very likely hoping to get someplace that he won’t have to face extradition before the hammer drops.

    Eeeeh, not so fast: https://www.forbes.com/sites/siladityaray/2021/01/05/scotlands-leader-trump-cant-skip-inauguration-and-come-here/

The thought of Trump being repeatedly told “no” for the first time in his life is delicious. I’ll take my schadenfreude where I can.

Perhaps he’s been following the Assange case, and thinks he can wriggle out of an application for extradition.

Oh, has it come out as a coloring book? I hadn’t heard!

He probably wants to book a presidential entourage at that golf course to shore up its woeful losses.

Trump claimed the Scottish resorts alone were worth at least $100 million total in 2018 on U.S. documents, but the U.K. records indicate that the resorts aren’t worth anywhere near that because the debts exceeded the assets by about $80 million that year.

    Delicious.

But after noon (DC time) on the 20th the government won’t pay expenses for his entourage apart from the mandated secret service agents. He could find himself providing free hospitality to that entourage…

I doubt that, Ophelia. Once noon has passed the entourage will be on their own dime, so they’d better be checking that their personal credit cards are good to go before setting off.

Does he think Scotland doesn’t have an extradition treaty?
